Civilization 6 - Culture victory as Rome!

I don't think I ever won a culture victory in Civ 5. I also don't think I ever won a game before making it to the last era. I was still in the Atomic Era. I had Ghandi as an ally, but neither one of us ever got to nukes. Despite saying this, I think you burn through the latter parts of the tech tree too quickly. Rationalism is way too powerful.

Towards the end of the game I was just buying off everybody else's Great Works. 100 gold per turn for The Telltale Heart? Sure, I don't care. I'm gonna win next turn anyway. One thing I learned is that the game is VERY finicky about building national parks. I never did find a suitable place.  Seaside resorts are also a little finicky, but I managed to find enough places with "Breathtaking" appeal to win. Those are worth +8 Tourism each.

Rome is pretty damn good.  Roads all over the place. I had 14 trade routes going at the end.

Yeah Rome is quite good. You can only build national parks next to natural wonders, but the game doesn't tell you where the hell they are after you first find one. And then, once you remember where one was, hopefully you didn't improve any tiles next to it, cause if you did you'll have to clear them off.

Basically, I didn't find it worth all the faith it cost to create.

I made it to the credit roll in Pokémon Moon. Now I just have to decide if I'm done with it...

How did you enjoy it?
FINE

Storywise, it's probably the best Pokémon yet. It's not mind-blowing or anything, but it's darn good for Pokémon. And they gave it a real Hawaiian flavor. It's not like the last couple where it's pretty much the same ol' thing, but more New York- or France-looking. The universe felt a little bit more cohesive. I also loved a new feature where if you've already encountered a Pokémon before, it lets you know which of your moves will be effective, and shows you before you swap Pokémon. So no more puzzling over how to tackle a bird/rock type Pokémon, for instance. I like a lot of the new Pokémon, too.

Looker shows up again post credits, for more story stuff, if that means anything to you. Also, yes, the new pokemon are awesome. They even made a ton of old pokemon relevant by adding an ability, or even by making them Alola specific. Persian is disgusting if you play it right. :P

Yeah, I like the new Aolan forms. Vulpix was always a favorite of mine, but he was never relevant because I tend to go with fire for my Starter Pokémon. Now I have an excuse to incorporate him into my team (Although it may be hard to let go of my Crabominable).

I also love that you page Pokémon for rides instead of using HMs for everything. All the reviews talk like that just means you have a few extra slots for moves, but it changes how I formed my whole team. Since I'm more about catching 'em all than I am about winning Pokémon tournaments, I need full mobility to get to those elusive Pokémon spots. This means I've had to shape my teams so that all of the HM moves were available to me. This is the first time I've ever run a team without a flying or water type Pokémon, and that allows me to play around with types like Grass and Ghost that were never really useful for HMs before. Very liberating.

And the more I'm talking and thinking about it, the more I'm convinced that I'm at least going to take a stab at filling up the Aolan Pokedex. I don't know if I'll go International. Doing that in Black and White took me almost 300 hours, and that's not counting hours I spent in previous Pokémon games going all the way back to Ruby and Sapphire trading them up, or the hours I spent playing that awful online dream game.

I need to work on my Dex. I really want to have a living Dex available to me so I can just carry it over to each new game, plus having all the Pokemon being breedable would be so useful.

Pak-Man

Picked up Pony Island in a Humble Bundle and beat it over the last 3 nights. It's certainly a unique experience. Fourth-Wall Breaking. Like a cross between Portal and Eternal Darkness and an Atari game.

Variety of Cells

Beat Resident Evil 7.  Great game.  Very scary and well made, especially the first half or so.  The ending unfortunately starts to delve into typical RE evil corporation, bio weapon, yada yada junk that is only scary if you're into conspiracy theories and are convinced the govm'nt is out ta get ya.  I found the fucked up family who kidnaps people in the swamp aspect much scarier.  Thankfully the campyness doesn't seep into the performances, it's just relegated to text you find.  They also could have done more with the last encounter, but oh well.  Oh, and the brother was pretty weak in general.

All and all it was really good though, and I highly recommend it if you like the horror genre.

Pak-Man

I beat Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia... mostly.

There is post-game content and it is brutal. It all culminates in a massive dungeon with no save points, patrolled by the nastiest things in the game. I was almost through (There are 10 floors and I was on Floor 9) and I made a stupid mistake and lost a good couple hours of my life. Gonna keep at it, though! I want those bragging rights!

Johnny Unusual

Red Dead Redemption

After years of not playing it, I finally finished it off.  I basically gave up on some of the harder achievements, but I was really close to finishing all the sharpshooter skills.

MartyS (Gromit)

Finally got around to finishing King's Quest.

Last 2 chapters were far too linear, just solve one puzzle and move on to the next one.  Also no real choices, the path is pretty much already set by choices made in the first few chapters.

The short Epilogue at the end gets back to normal adventure game running around finding stuff here and there type play.

I think that is very common in episodic adventure games, unfortunately.

Yeah, I love the new King's Quest, but you can pinpoint the very moment in the series where they ran out of budget. Secondary characters suddenly fade into the background, environments get reused a lot more, branching pathways go away...

It was, okay. Nowhere near as good as the first chapter would have you believe. The first chapter is stellar, then it immediately went downhill. Chapters 2 and 3 weren't terrible, but chapter 4 definitely was. Which is sad because it had the best plot. But you spent 90% of the chapter doing inane puzzles. I actually had to look up how to do the luggage puzzle. Chapter 5 was marginally better. To be honest, I don't remember chapter 5 all that well, except for the final showdown with Manny. Which consists of more logic puzzles.

Though I have to admit, I did find it hilarious that you engage Wallace Shawn in a battle of wits at the end.

The point is, the first three chapters play like short King's Quest games. The last two are nothing like King's Quest.
