Questions
« on: July 07, 2008, 07:29:35 AM »
So we're learning quite a bit about each other in the How Old Were You thread, so I figured let's expand it a bit and just ask each other questions.

For example, I would ask a question.  You would answer it, with perhaps a bit of explanation or anecdote, then you would ask one.  Let's say you asked me "what's your favorite band?"  The post would go as such:

My favorite band is Travis.  The first song of theirs I ever heard was "Turn" and it's still my favorite and one of my favorite songs of all time.  I saw them in concert twice, years apart, and this most recent time, Fran Healy touched me.  AWESOME.

What's your favorite movie?

(I figured we'd start with an easy one.  Make it as personal or impersonal as you wish.)

Sorta jumped the gun and answered Courtney, but I'll also answer Action Batch:

I play keyboard.  Poorly.  And guitar.  Poorly.  Heh, anyway, onto the movie question:

I could probably give a couple answers to that, so I will.

My favorite movie from my childhood, and one of my first vivid theater experiences, is Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Now, I was kind of a giant wuss as a kid, and so it would seem that a movie where, at the end, a bunch of ghosts fly around and make Nazis (and a Frenchman) either blow up, deflate, or melt, would have given me nightmares.  For reasons I cannot possibly begin to fathom, that never was the case.  I loved that part, and was always completely fascinated with the special effects in that scene.  I would watch that movie over and over again once we got a VCR.  The fact that the rest of the movie is a pretty darn rollicking adventure helps too.

Some of my favorite movies that I've discovered in more recent years are:
Casablanca
Shaun of the Dead
A Bug's Life
That's probably good for now.

It's summer, so I'm gonna make this summer related: What's your favorite Beach Boys song?

My favorite two favorite genres ever ever are probably mid-90s alt rock and the also 90s Lillith Fair era.  While my favorite artists tend to be more the folksy singer songwriter or indie rock stuff, there will always be a huge place in my heart for Toad the Wet Sprocket, Semisonic, Garbage, et al, and I will ALWAYS love Sarah McLachlan, Cree Summer,  Mazzy Star (who is probably in my top 3 favorite bands ever), etc.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

Duh, I'm a nerd. Carrie Fisher. I had a crush on Winona Ryder (Reality Bytes era), Kim Gordon (sorry Thurston she's just so hot), and then Fight Club came out and I fell in love with Helena Bonham Carter. The big tourist.

Do you play any instruments?

EDIT: Just saw Digs edit. Oh well.

If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?

Mine would read: "What the hell are you looking at?"

If you were going to die tomorrow what would you make sure you did today?
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.
