Updates have been added.

I think I will join you guys on your journey (much the guys and gals joining Forrest Gump on his cross country run) when you get to season one.

Should be fun!

MST3K Episode K06: Gamera Vs. Gaos (Pak's Take)

And the proto MST3K takes on yet another Gamera movie. I found it amusing that in the first host segment in the middle of 5 Gamera movies in a row, they chose to play a phone call from someone who thought 2 Gamera movies was "a little rediculous."
Here, we also get the change from the Kermit-The-Frog Servo into the more recognizable Tom Servo. I have to imagine doing the kermit voice for a couple hours straight was a litle taxing on Josh, and the change to something closer to his natural speaking voice was probably part that, and part making him easier to understand.

This Gamera movie has all the conventions. This time they take Gamera,. who eats fire, and pair him with Gaos, who can extinguish it. Gamera actually takes something of a beating in this one, but, as always, he returns to fight another day and is ultimately triumphant. This one also has the obligatory child who believes in Gamera and gets full military access as a result. I think "Kid who loves the title monster" is a couple ranks above "Four Star General" in Japan.

In this episode, Crow's still frozen, so we get our first 2-man riff with Joel and Servo.  It definitely pays for Joel to have someone else in the theatre with him, and the increased tempo of riffing that we started to see in the last episode combined with a second riffer brings this episode way up to par. If it weren't for the improvised lines, this could easily have aired amongst Season 1's episodes.

Favorite Line: Same as Tyrant's. There really isn't anything better than old men mooing.

Overall: 5 out of 10.

Added the "intro message" and started the table of contents where you can click on the episode and it takes you to that episode review.

Any suggestions on how to snaz it up, etc would be welcome.

Nicely done, PSLOwner. I keep thinking we're thanking you too repeatedly, but thanks!  ;D

To snaz it up, we probably need more pictures. I told Pak we needed pictures for the intro and he denies we do. So I'm thinking popular opinion here from the forum: Do we need (more) pictures or not? If not, what else can we add to make everything look awesome?

Hmm, I kind of like the improvised pictures you've been using, but it might be good to see some actual screen shots or something, just a matter of how easy can you get them and how good they'd look, especially here on the early eps.

You guys could come up with an icon or logo for the reviews rather than the standard MST3K globe that I currently have to click on to get to the reviews.

So many possibilities...............

MST3K Episode K04: Gamera Vs. Barugon

Ok, I'm a couple of episodes behind right out of the gate but hopefully I can catch up.   My copy of K04 wasn't finalized for some reason so it only played in my home dvd burner.  Fixed that now and I didn't want to skip ahead so my 2 cents on this episode are as follows-

Favorite Riff-  (as Barugon knocks over a bridge) That guy doesn't understand the concept of AROUND.

One of the characters in the film actually says "What do you think sirs" and I suspect this is the origin of Joel's conversations with the mads in future episodes.  I wasn't sure if that had been brought up anywhere or not, and I've never taken the time to really read up on any of the MST3k discussion boards or episode guides.

The fact that they took phone calls makes me want to see the other episodes K01-K03 even more.  I wanna know how much chap stick stuff was in the missing episodes to warrant a viewer call on it.

One other side note.  Has anyone tried the phone number lately?  I haven't taken the time to look up the Minneapolis prefix and I was curious where the call went nowadays.

Welcome aboard, Raven. We're planning on going fast and furious this weekend and fitting in another 2 or 3, but there's going to be a dry spell during the week from now on as Tyrant's new employment means no staying up 'til 2 AM watching MST3K. That should give everyone ample time to catch up. From there, our goal is 2 or 3 per weekend. 4 if we're feeling ambitious. :^)
