The X-Files is now available to purchase! Unfortunately there is an issue with this DVD, and it's proving difficult to author the .riff file for you guys. We should have an update tomorrow some time. Until then, please enjoy the mp3.

No PAL yet, either, as the product page clearly shows. :)

Just tried to play it and it's terribly out of sync. Is there more than one version of the DVD?

I don't believe so... other people don't seem to be experiencing the problem. You are watching it on an actual DVD, right? Not an AVI or something>

DVD of movie and mp3 (burnt onto CD) of the Riff (mp3 through the TV speakers, DVD through the audio system). I also tried it with an avi and mp3 and still out of sync.

*agree*
I found a good deal on the Swedish "Arkiv X Fight the Future Special Edition" DVD.
Will there be a PAL version that works with that one?

There are actually two DVD versions of this movie, though they both should have the same cut. The first DVD release was in the early days of DVD, and was non-anamorphic. The second release was remastered, and has an anamorphic transfer. I have no idea if this is causing a problem or not, but it would be good to find out which version was used by the riffers. I have the earlier release at home, which I can check on after work, but the second release I think had a DTS soundtrack added, too. It should be easy to tell them apart.

Edit: There's a comparison at thedigitalbits.com between the two versions. The original release looks like this:

And the second release looks like this:

It's easy to spot due to the "Enhanced Widescreen" banner, and DTS logo.

There might even be three. I have the complete X-Files collection that has all the seasons and the movie. The disc label for the movie had a "VER3" on the end. It is anamorphic and has the DTS and I had no problems with sync.

Amazon Unbox has no issues up until Mulder has a mumble with the guy in the Limo, which I think the scene ran on longer with the version they used, so it desyncs by 10-45 seconds. From there, you have to wait till the sync lines. After they get to the snow scenes, then there's one more sync line. That sync line with the guy shouting about being armed is the line to resync it. From there, it's about -0.3 to +0.9 seconds out of sync depending on system resources.

There don't appear to be any differences between the NTSC and PAL versions. Changing the speed of the NTSC by 4.271% makes it sync. perfectly for me.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I reauthored this with the old, old non-anamorphic version (all my video store had) and there were absolutely no sync issues.

The PAL version is on the FTP, don't know if torgosPizza has had the chance to update the page yet.
