814 - Riding with Death

Just finished up being my Ben Murphyiest!

I really enjoy this episode, while not perfect the skits are pretty strong

Riffing is really strong from everyone in this one, solid team work and each riffer gets great jokes spanning the entire duration of this tv show, I mean movie!

Favorites:
Skits - Tom singing his song about the 0070s and Tom as a truck driver.

Riffs  Mike's "America for Americans" song/riff  and Yep, think I'm going to do me a pinch hit, put on some Deep Purple, and get this top secret government project underway.


A- , overall this is a must see for any MSTie!

I just finished watching Hobgoblins and I think my brain might have exploded. That has to be one the worst movies on MST3K up there with Manos, and The Beast of Yucca Flats.

Eh, those movies were boring bad. Hobgoblins has funny puppets at least. Of course it also has a layer of sleaze, and Olive Oil as a slut, so that doesn't help.

Watched a bit of Werewolf in between the break in Olympic coverage. Love the classical music references they toss out in this one with that inane cello in the music.

Best part, the part that clinches this movie in bad movie history, is that he's telling these disturbing stories to his grandson! Hilarious touch! Obviously they found that early 80s evil monkey movie and wanted to make it a feature or something, so they added all that 90s stuff, but it's really obvious, not only that it's 15 years later, but that the 80s movie is film and the 90s stuff is video! did they think we wouldn't notice? Sheesh! I would love to know, though, how the original movie ends. Obviously someone puts their hands between the cymbals, but who?

"Since when has a man noticed a plant in a house?"
"Yeah, this looks like the most expensive thing in here!"

HAHA!  Absolutely!  Great, great episode!  That movie is such a turd, but a sheer delight.  I love the psychic lady (or whatever she is) that explains what David needs to do in order to rid himself of the evil toy monkey!  She is so angry, "For God's sake David!  This is serious!"  Plus, the pompous, evil 'store review guy' who's vague critiques can destroy entire cities with the stroke of his pen.  So much for Mike and the Bots to work with in this one.  This is a favorite!

Oh, and "rock n' roll martian...

I finished this one the other day. Such a great episode! I did notice, though that the movie was so dark at some points that the silhouettes blended in. I thought they did something so the movie wouldn't be as dark as the shadowrama, based on what they learned way back at the beginning. Was this an exception or something?

I don't know if they had anything in place for dark movies in color, but they did have one for black and white movies.  At first they were told to make the shadowrama slightly green, but they didn't like how that looked, so instead they started tinting the movie slightly blue.  That probably would have been too distracting to try on a color movie.

I watched...606 - The Creeping Terror. 

Fairly amusing; I think the skits were better than the movie. I particularly enjoyed Mike's audiophile skit.

One of my favorite episodes.

And for a skit that kinda drags on for too long, Mike sure does sell it the whole time.  Great stuff.

As I step gingerly into the technology year of 2002, DAP-ing and torrenting and Flicking avis into isos and burning, burning, burning those DVD-RWs that will be always turning, turning, turning, I am able to explore many MST3Ks that I've never seen before, or only once.  Leech Woman is one of those.  I was struck by the fact that the jutty fiance is played by the same actress that played the lead Romulan girl in Girls' Town, and that she was also the maiden daughter in my new favorite Christmas movie with Bogart, Ustinov and Ray; We're No Angels.  Gloria Talbott.  Wow she did a metric sh*tload  of TV...
