Terror From the Year 5000

Yet another episode much funnier the second time around. In fact, I a had such a good time with this one I can't for the life of me think what the heck my problem was last year when I didn't care for it.  As many have said, this is one of the many magical things about MST. An episode that didn't do much for you the first time could very well have you in stitches on repeated viewings.

I LOVED the running "Terror seems to be running a little late now, let me see what the issue is" gag Kevin had at the beginning.

K-10 Cosmic Princess

I can't beleive I found this episode. I was prepared to just take whatever else was on youtube or google and just call it a day but then I found this and many more hidden away in the secret corners of the internet. Anyway, this movie was actually two episodes of Space: 1999 spliced together, the first time the show did this sort of movie.

It looks like they spent so much money on props and special effects that they had nothing left over for actors and even less for writers. Overall, still a pretty good epsisode from this era, seems like they get better as they go along. Servo's head actually popped off accidentaly for the first time and they just rolled with it. There's also a good 15 minute stretch where Servo keeps trying to attack Crow in the middle of the movie as they exchange insults and Joel holds them apart. It did a lot to distract me from how boring and dull the movie was. I don't remember them ever trying something like that in a later episode although I suppose with a written script they never needed to.

This actually aired during the Super Bowl between the Bengals and the 49ers so I imagine no one saw it at all until there was a rerun. Although there were some football related sketches.

Next Up: K-05 Gamera, a solo riff considered to be the worst episode ever

Space Mutiny.  I think I've only seen this episode once before, but good Lord, it begs for the riffing it gets.  Fantastic.

I'm ridiculously fond of these episodes.  The guys really made the most of what they had to work with, and it's great to watch them in action.  They at least look like they're having a lot of fun.  I'd never heard Joel giggle so much during the course of the show than I heard him giggle during one KTMA episode.

And there's a bunch of visual gags, too, which I always adore.  I think one of my favorites during this time was in a later Gamera episode.  At this point, the guys had said everything that could be said about the credits, so during the credits for this movie, the bots attempted to escape from the theater, and poor Joel had to corral the two of them.  A simple gag, and a little transparent, as the bots settled down immediately after the movie started, but I thought it was great.  Or maybe I'm just too easily amused.  Who knows?

K-05 Gamera (Joel's solo riff)

"If you say 'Tippy' one more time, I'm gonna belt you. Stop it. STOP IT!"

As could be expected, the riffs were few and far between but surprisingly good. Considering that Servo still had his Kermit voice at that point, it might have been a good thing not having him on hand. Joel is especially funny as he harasses the annoying insane kid throughout the movie. "Gamera asked about you, Kenny. He wants to know when you will visit him."

The movie actually got my hopes up as it seemed to be taking itself seriously until the emotionally scarred little boy with his pet turtle showed up. At least he only said "Gamera is a friend to all children" just once, no one beleived him, and there was no theme music. Unlike some of the others, this is a legit monster movie complete with the customary destruction of Tokyo.

Next up: K-06 and K-11 if I can find it.

Watched Attack of the Giant Leeches and Giant Gila Monster....

Anyone else find it ironic that the intro to Gila Monster has footage from Godzilla vs. Megalon in it?

And we've got three Corman films....what about the rest?

But then I'm still trying to figure out why people say Amazing Colossal Man will never happen on DVD because of the VHS screw up...when they not only got Tormented by the same people but the producer and his daughter did an interview for it.   They can't be that mad at MST3K, eh?

Colossus and the Headhunters

Hadn't watched this in ages. It was a lot of fun to re-visit. It's worth watching for that dancing segment alone. I've always loved when they riff on bad singing and dancing. One of the main reasons I've always been a big fan of Horror of Party Beach and ISCWSLABMUZ.

A solid episode with  the usual strong season six riffing.

I'm not so sure anymore, but I thought the copyright holders for Amazing Colossal Man aren't necessarily those same people at this point.  If I'm wrong (and I hope I am) I don't see why we couldn't get that episode, here's hoping.  Also, the fact that the problem was with Rhino, and Rhino's been kicked to the curb might help matters.

I just watched Leech Woman.  Good riffing, and I quite enjoy the film itself as well.  Pretty dark subject matter.  It was pretty laughable how the titular character was able to hit the pituitary gland on all her victims without fail.  Even the guy who tried to mug her...she hit the gland from the front, while being choked!

That's Flock of Rabid Sheep's grandmother ya know

yuppers. we were supposed to travel down to LA to meet her this summer, but I have to work and take my comprehensive exams. Hopefully we will get to visit her in the fall. During one of our first conversations, Flocky told me to look Collen Gray up on IMDB, he was all "she's my grandma" and then i was scrolling down and i saw she was the leech woman. I started screaming. He told her i was a fan and now she wants to meet me

unfortunatly, she doesn't have the pineal ring. I told flocky i wanted that for my engagement ring

Colleen Gray is awesome!  She's great in her early movies: Nightmare Alley, Kiss of Death, and Red River.

That's so awesome, flock's from famous stock!  *dodges punches and slaps*

She's one of my favorite actresses in any MST3K movie.  Leech Woman's in my top five episodes ever.

As for me, I just watched The Violent Years for the first time in a long time, and that's an episode people don't mention much, but is one of the best.  Probably some of my favorite host segments, the short is one of the best, and it's just a really solid episode.
