Download Question
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:27:11 AM »
Hey I was wondering if there is any place that I can download these shorts that are public domain, being A Visit from Santa, or this new one. I know there are Torrents out there, but I hate torrents with a passion. So does anybody know of a place that has these for download as just an avi or mpeg4 file?

I need these as I don't have any DVD players that play DivX DVD's.

www.archive.org

Yes, I was just about to edit my post that I tried archive.org (Yes, I'm not that stupid...almost though), but I couldn't download the files. I just found that you can download them through an FTP client so question hopefully resolved.

You can download through the regular HTTP interface as well.  That's how I do it.  Just right click and Save As.  There are usually several resolution levels available, depending on your needs.  Me, I go high-res, which tends to be about 300-400 megs.

You know Bit Torrent is just another way of downloading files where users share the bandwidth.  The only thing that makes it bad is when copyrighted files are downloaded via Bit Torrent.  Bit Torrent is your friend.  Downloading copyrighted material, no matter what protocol you use, is bad.

To be honest Torrents were once the way I got music that is not commercially available. Torrents can be a very good thing, but I've developed a block to them and refuse to use them as I got a virus from a torrent and had to wipe my hard drive. So yeah, I don't use them on principle.
