The individual suggestions are good, but I don't want the list to represent one person's thinking, otherwise it's not a forum choice.  I'll remove the OOP DVD's and see what we're left with.

OK.  I've removed the OOP ones and we're left with 145 titles.  Perhaps we should look at removing titles that are a bit too similar to previous rifftrax...?

If they're similar to previous rifftrax, they've got the right ingredients. Maybe if we split them up by Genre, we can get some managable brackets going on...

The total list gives us:

44 Science Fiction movies.
46 Action movies.
23 Horror movies.
32 Other movies.

Does this help anyone?  I'm thinking the easiest thing is to break things into tenuous groups (such as "superhero movies")and poll them before we start the bracketing.

What would be really cool is if the Rifftrax folks gave us a list of 16 or 32 movies (movies they would be willing to do, but not necessarily something already scheduled), and then we do our little tournament with those titles.  Than they could actually do the winning film.  The first annual Rifftrax Roundtable Viewer's Choice Tournament!

What do you think, sirs?

That sounds like a most excellent idea.  Completely solves the problem of possibly not wanting to do the movie.  It will also be a much shorter list.  I fully support this idea.

Or, to keep things more open, we could have the Mods pick movies off our list that have no Snowball's chance in Hades (Keeping in mind that our selection is still never a guarantee. :^))

I think the lists already compiled in this thread could be considered "nominated" films.  Let the Rifftrax staff choose the 16 or 32 films for the tourney from that.  I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibilty that Rifftrax would get behind this tournament by selecting the entry films and actually using the winning film for an upcoming Rifftrax.

The only problem is that we'll have to wait quite a while for their picks.  They will have to consult Mike and everyone else, which will take weeks.  If we proceed with our fan made list it will get done faster, but we'll be unsure of its validity.  I'm all for waiting it out, but if there are those who just can't wait, we might want to continue forward.

I'm sure the mod's would be able to give us an answer tomorrow, meaning they should be able to tell us one way or the other if this is something they would want to do.  It would be worth waiting a week or so for their picks, just to know that the winning film was a definite Rifftrax.  If not, then the fantasy tourney would still be fun.  And who knows, they might still be willing to do the winning pick.

I also like Pak's idea of asking the Mod's to help trim the master list of films they would never do.  Assuming they don't want to just select a Top 16 or 32 for us to use.

Logan's Run is unavailable in Region 2? I'm sure you're all very jealous of my copy.

We should all be in the mindset that this bracket tournament would only be for fun.  To get your hopes up that Mike would actually riff it would be a long shot.  The mods would come up with their own tourney if this were a true possibility.

Well, given the types of movies that have been done as Rifftrax and the level of most of the movies suggested and favored by this board.  It would be likely that Mike would do our winning choice eventually anyway.  Unless something unexpected wins, such as Troll 2 or Gandhi.

I was just suggesting a way to give this tourney a bit of legitimacy.  It is, of course, completely up to the Rifftrax crew if they want to actually use the winning film as Rifftrax fodder.

Looks like an awesome event being planned here.  I say proceed with the tournament.  Seeing             how it plays out will be a good way to gauge interest in movies, but it'll also be really fun.  Blender (I'll admit that it arrives at my house every month) is currently doing the same thing with bands, and while it's far stupider than this idea, it's still kind of fun to read.

That said, like all the polls, it could be a great way to gauge interest, but it still has a few problems that I think would keep it from being a foolproof way to pick the next movie.  First of all, how do you make sure that voting is kept honest?  Maybe submitting votes by just replying to a thread for each matchup?  I'm not sure, but I think it would be relatively easy to vote many times for a poll, (not that anyone would be so desperate...actually, scratch that...)  And then you still run into the risk that whatever wins turns out not to really work for a riffable movie, and there's no way we could pour through all the choices ahead of time to see what wouldn't work.  Often what trips you up are the things you don't think about like a movie being too talky:  you don't really notice until you look for it.  We'd need a clause like in the Riff-Off where we can use all or part of the winners, but there's no real way to do that here.

That's my opinion.  But I say to go with it.  If we have a Cinderella story with an unexpected movie taking down some titans, it could call it to our attention in a way that posting "OMG TROLL 2!!!1111!!!" does not.

What do the rest of you think?
