mrbasehart, you are dedicated.  Well done.  Now, we have to whittle down this list drastically.  Like you said originally, only including movies made in the past 30 years that are readily available on DVD should chop this down some.  But that's still a big list....

Okay.  I've gone through the list, and removed films that have only been nominated once, that are inappropriate (in terms of age or subject matter) and that are not widely available on DVD.  We have 163 movies left.   :)

Shall I post the list?

Once the final list of films is available, we can then break it down by genre, mabye. Then, the films in each genre can compete for top spot, then each genre can compete. This is turning out to be a fun game.

Well done, mrbasehart!!!

Well, here are the ones that I think, for whatever reason, shouldn't get riffed (i.e. too good, too bad, too obscure, not enough interest, etc.):

American Ninja
Beastmaster
Big Trouble in Little China
Bloodrayne
Bloodsport
Cabin Fever
Capote
Caravan of Courage
Career Opportunities
Dark City
Donnie Darko
Equilibrium
Gigli - (not even Mike, Kevin, & Bill all together could make this one watchable)
Hackers
Harley Davidson & the Marlborough Man
Knock-Off
Kull the Conqueror
Krull
Logan's Run
Lord of the Rings: Animated (too long)
Mannequin
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
Mission to Mars (boring)
Monkey Shines
North
Omega Man
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Robin Hood: PoT
Saint, The
Sound of Thunder, A
Super Fuzz
Super Mario Bros (Ugh......)
Tango & Cash
THX-1138
Tremors
Troll 2 (Sorry, guys - it's hilariously terrible, but it's just not right for Rifftrax)
Wall Street
Wizard, The
Wizard of Oz, The
Wizards
Zardoz
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Ok i just did a quick search using Play.Com so i'm not saying it;s right but as far as i can tell all these below titles aren't avaiable in Region 2. If someone knows otherwise please let me know and i'll amend the list but i recommened these be struck off due to us (Region 2 guys) not having access to them. It should be a fair and level playing field for all.

Beastmaster
Bloodrayne
Bloodsport
Career Opportunities
Dreamscape
Howard the Duck (think this is oop in Region 1 as well)
Kull the Conqueror
Logan's Run
Never Ending Story III
North
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Shanghai Surprise
Super Fuzz
Super Mario Bros
Wizard, The
Wizards

EDIT: Just went through each of the above titles in another region 2 website with no hits so looks like they are definatly not avaibale over here.

That's a good start, I did see Shanghai Surprise recently on DVD (region 2) however.  But if they're not showing on some websites, perhaps we can disclude them from the list as being too obscure.

It was on Play but not for sale which leads me to believe it might be out of print.

Anything else to whittle down the movies?

Remove the more obscure ones?

mrbasehart, how many you actually looking at getting it down to anyway?

If I understand this right, you may want to consider a bracket system to eliminate movies by doing some head-to-head voting.  This will cut the choices down to either 32 or 64.  Here is what I believe should be on this list of 32 (feel free to add/subtract):

Armageddon
Batman & Robin
Battlefield Earth
Blair Witch Project, The
Deep Blue Sea
Dirty Dancing
Donnie Darko
Dungeons & Dragons
Fast and the Furious
Footloose
Gigli
Gladiator
Godzilla (AMERICAN)
Hackers
Independence Day
Jingle All The Way
Jurassic Park
Legend
Leprechaun
Lost Boys, The
Purple Rain
Red Dawn
Showgirls
Starship Troopers
Super Mario Bros
Titanic
Total Recall
Troll 2
Village, The
Waterworld
Wild Wild West
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
