Now, obviously this is a reference to a Monty Python sketch about Australians, but I read it and I began to wonder: Now Australia seems, to me at least to be pretty damn gay friendly (as a culture, obviously there are those who don't like gay people, but it seems generally open to homosexuality at least in many urban areas) so at the time of the sketch, was this mocking a real attitude or was it already beginning to be outmoded? I assume the former is loser to the truth but my grasp of Australian social history is limited to what I can glean from
Brides of Christ and similar.
Assuming that was the attitude, what events are significant to the change in attitudes?
