I think we ended up watching three in my high school 'Cinema Studies' class.  And yes, they are life-suckingly slow.

With the Sydow/Death chess match (and including lots of other 'Bergmanisms'), there was an absolutely hysterically funny short parody film done in the '70s that I wish I could find (haven't seen it since, though I've looked).  It was called 'De Düve' [The Dove].  It had faux Swedish (using quite amusing English-German-Latin-Swedish neologisms) but with 'straight' captions. :D

Fuck me: it's on YouTube!  Shoulda' though to re-check that ages ago, and just keep checking til it ended up there! ::)

Enjoy! :)

EDIT:  Oh, yeah, if anyone's interested, it was Madeline Kahn's first film.

To dispel some of the misconceptions about head injuries you have developed from watching movies and TV, I wrote this: ...Some Information on Head Injury Effects

I've only seen the one with Max Von Sydow playing chess with Death, and couldn't finish it. Just kind of boring to me.

You went right into the deep end on that one. That's his 'artiest film,' I believe. I haven't worked up to it yet.

Fanny & Alexander is incredible (And over five hours long).

Smiles of a Summer Night was our first one and it's very accessible.
FINE

It's not his artsiest. Cries and Whispers is much worse/better depending on how you look at it. Personally I like it, but it's definitely very slow. His DP was amazing though.

The internet has failed.  It's been a week since Downton Abbey has been out on disc and I can't find any pictures of Mrs Hughes standing at the edge of the water with a shark jumping up to eat her.  Come on, the way last season ended it's the perfect joke way to end this one....

Fanny and Alexander is a lovely film, especially its Christmas hour.

Nice touch that the shark looks like it has bad British teeth. Althugh that could just be the low resolution.

I want to take the plunge and cancel DirecTV.  I already have netflix, hulu+, and amazon prime....I'm just scared.  I need some words of encouragement.
Well, I did it! It was kind of odd.  It felt like a break-up. I signed up for hulu and aereo to take its place (about $16 a month) so I will be saving $114 a month. They made a measly attempt to keep me ($50 off a month if I sign a 2 year contract). In the end I told them that the only way I would stick around is if they offered chanels a la carte, and if they didn't charge for each room, HD, and DVR.

I have the bare-bones "Family" plan with U-verse TV. No HD, only one DVR, and no channels that I actually want to watch. Seriously, I have to pay $20 more a month just to get Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, or SyFy, not to mention a lot of others. We do get the Discovery Channel, but that's about the only one I care about. We decided to try it out when my current U-verse internet deal ran out and got a package deal for internet and TV. Definitely dropping TV once the contract is up and we have to renegotiate payments. We rarely ever watch it and end up using Netflix for most of our entertainment needs.

I personally almost never watch TV (just occasionally with my family). Almost everyone I know around my age or younger doesn't even bother with TV. Unless they figure a way out to make TV look more attractive to future generations I don't see it lasting, as it is now. For me the reason is very simple, commercials, I just can't sit through them when I have commercial free entertainment available to me on my computer, phone or console.

Another thing I did away with recently is phone contracts. Verizon, AT&T ect just don't really make sense when you can get unlimited service and no contract for a cheaper price. The biggest drawback is you have to pay for the phone outright and there is no trade ins, but the phones cost pays for itself in a matter of months in savings.

I just stumbled accross 'The Film Crew.' Yes, that film crew... Not sure what to think, but it seemed kinda cool so I'll watch a full episode some time.
