I haven't had time to watch "next" yet.  Is this a chick flick.  If not I was curious why this discussion started here?  Or is it a chicktrax because Bridget is riffing?

Not a chick flick by any stretch of the imagination.  I think we wandered into these waters because several posters had never heard Bridget riff until she did this dude flick.

That's correct.

Wow, I post, go out of town, and come back to find a two-page thread! Much more than I expected. To all of you guys who were brave enough to rent Grey's for the sake of RiffTrax, you have my respect!  ;D

I actually bought Grey's Anatomy!!!

There's been no movie that's stopped me thus far!

In FACT, my WIFE couldn't even bring herself to rent Glitter and Crossroads and made ME do it! And I DID!

Uh...

Yeah so I guess men are the weaker sex. :^)

Pak speaks the truth. I'm not sure how to categorized myself, but I absolutely can't stand chick flicks/shows. I'll take brainless action over romance/romance-comedy (and whatever the hell else everyone thinks women like) any day.

Oh, and Sarah Silverman isn't that great, in my opinion. Her humor is far too contrived.  I can see why other people would like her, though.

Ok I still don't get the Sarah Silverman Show.

Is it because every one on the show is ignorant on some level ???
Is that why it's supposed to be funny ???

I think that you're just supposed to be apathetic to, no wait... despise any sort of morality or common decency. Which is funny to a lot of people, no doubt. I mean, it's great for teenage boys who are angry at the world. They love her lack of respect for anything, and think she's really hot. Which she isn't actually, but that's beside the point.

That clueless innocence of yours... the one you base you're whole routine around... yeah, that look... it's not gonna' last for much longer. So go and sell yourself out to whoever is buying while you can!

Cross those boundaries Sarah! You homewrecker, you!

Hey, she's not funny to me either.

Probably because her kind of stuff doesn't offend me. You have to have at least a vestigal belief in decency to be shocked and therefore amused by her shtick. A lot of the humor people find in her comes from the "Oh she did not just say that! Giggle giggle snicker gasp tee-hee!" reaction, and that doesn't work on me because I can't help but see through it to the pathetic, talentless person behind. Beyond her ability to shock people, she's about as funny as Garrison Keillor hopped up on vicodin. I've said it before but I think it's a good comparison: her approach to comedy is the same approach KISS and Marilyn Manson take to music, and most people would question their overall quality as musicians...

...

Huh... that's interesting. I think she's lame because she tries to offend people, and her fans high-five her because of it. And you think she's lame because she tries to be offensive and just fails at it. Whatever. I guess we both just think she's pretty lame.

Alright then. So who's a big fan of Sarah, and is going to convince us otherwise? Alright, we're not going to be convinced, but ya' know... at least explain yourself, you Sarah Silverman lovers!

I'm a fan of Sarah Silverman ... I believe YouTubes have been posted in this thread already... if not, like you said, there's no convincing you anyway.

Why do you think she's being any different than any other stand up comic? Her 'Jesus is magic' line is classic. She's got plenty of talent in my opinion.

i found her stand-up routine to be mildly entertaining, but after a while, it gets hackneyed.  And her show, in my most humble opinion, is just downright unwatchable.

Why do you think she's being any different than any other stand up comic?

Now I don't claim to be able to analyze "funny", but I've given it some thought and have come to the conclusion that Sarah's routines rely entirely on the assumption that the audience derives some kind of emotional response to her being offensive (whether they find it funny or not). Therefore, all she does is be offensive. So doesn't actually tell any jokes - or at least jokes that are meant to be funny on their own and not simply a delivery system for more offensiveness. Most other comedians will include other forms of humor (sarcasm, irony etc.), while Sarah is a one trick pony - and if her trick doesn't get you, there's nothing else appealing about her.

That is, of course, just why I don't find her funny. If you think offensiveness is funny then it works out great, doesn't it?

While I don't particularly find her that funny as a stand up, she was hilarious as Monk's stalker-fan.   :)

To me, Sarah Silverman has always been a bit underwhelming.  She can make me chuckle from time to time, but her comedy is pretty one dimensional.  My favorite woman comedian is Maria Bamford.  In a lot of her bits she does voices of other people, her mom, co-workers, etc, and they crack me up.  Her routines are best taken in as a whole, but these bits will give you a taste:
