Pacific Rim was the last movie I've watched in theaters. All I can say is that I really, REALLY like movies about giant robots.

Still on my early '80s kick and watched a couple more that I had never seen nor heard of before.

The Lathe Of Heaven

1980 made-for-tv PBS Sci-Fi film about a guy whose dreams affect reality and what happens when his shrink tries to use that power to make things better.  Let's just say that things don't always work out the way you intend them to.  This was a fun film.  I read up on it a bit after and learned that it was based on a rather famous science fiction novel from the early '70s.

Windows

Also from 1980, this stars Talia Shire as a meek single woman living in New York City, with a neighbor who is more than she seems.  It's your basic girl meets girl, girl falls for girl, girl hires guy to rape girl and make audio recordings of it so she can get off while listening to them.  You know, that old story.  This one is terrible.

Found these titles on IMDB while looking for obscure films from the early '80s and watched both on YouTube.

Head Office

Lots of familiar faces pop up in this unfunny comedy about corporate America.  Tedious at best.

Witchboard

Fun '80s horror flick.  Tawny Kitaen, who was smokin' hot back in the day, stars as a woman with a Ouija board that actually works as intended.

Bloodfist 3 - Forced To Fight

When your star is Don "The Dragon" Wilson, you pretty much know what you are going to get.  In this case, a lackluster prison yarn with some kickboxing fights along the way.  About average film for this genre.

Not really sure what to make of it. I was mildly entertained, but it was half a watered down sanitized 'Boogie Nights' and half a watered down sanitized version of the book 'Ordeal'. And the mafia was made out to be rather heroic.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

One of my favorite musicals, found it on DVD.  No extras though.  It makes me happy.

Blue Jazmine - the woody allen film

I think the movie was a statement by Woody on Mia Farrow.  Especially the scene towards the end where Alec Baldwyn has it out with Kate Blanchette.  Andrew Dice Clay was good.  I'd like to see more of him in drama roles.

I'm as surprised as anyone that my favourite movie so far this year stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Joe Don Baker.
FINE

Oh, I love this movie. It's a favourite of my mother and I. Howard Keel's voice...

I tried to go see Starship Troopers, but these three guys kept making snarky comments the entire time.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Lovelace

I thought it was OK.  I think the filmmakers tried to frame the story so that the viewer was left to decide which version of events was the true one.  The almost fairy tale like first half, or the born again anti-pornography Lovelace autobiography version that they show in the second half.  The scene with the lie detector indicates that at least her publisher thought she might be bullshitting people.

I tend to think that Lovelace may have exaggerated some of the events in her book due to her own political agendas.

I thought Amanda Seyfried was lovely in this and did a great job with the performance.  Actually all of the cast was top notch.

I caught this on VOD and gladly paid to do so.  Something I wish Hollywood would learn quick.  Make first run movies available opening weekend for 8-10 bucks, and then have the home video window releases price match Redbox. $1.20 for HD movies same day as DVD.  They would make a fortune!

Just saw Kick Ass 2, which is what extremely lucky men get to watch on their 10 year wedding anniversary. Lots of fun. If you liked the first, you'll like this one. It had the same so-lame-it's-kinda-awesome aesthetic that the first one did so well.

The Conjuring.
Wife loved it, and I hated it:

1/ Not magic in sight: not a single conjuring trick

2/ The worst ghost effect ever - you can see it is someone in a sheet!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

3/ Turns out at the end it was just bad clams
