Shoot Em Up

Man, I love this movie.  It's gloriously violent, way over the top.  And sexy.

Love the shoot-out in the hotel to the "Ace of Spades"

And well acted.  Paul Giamatti is always awesome.  And Clive Owen is deadpan, I LOL'D many times

Still one of my favorite action movies. It's basically a send-up of them, while still being a solid one in its own right. Paul Giamatti needs to do a lot more villain roles, he's way too much fun.

How does this compare to Hot Fuzz?

Entirely different kinds of movies, really. Shoot 'Em Up is pretty much exactly what the titles says. It's a send-up of the genre in the sense that it strips it down to the bare elements, and then goes to town with them. Going off some of the lines in the film, it wouldn't be a stretch to call it live action Looney Tunes (if not to the Kung-Fu Hustle extreme), crossed with that scene in the Simpsons where Homer gets a gun and proceeds to use it to do odd jobs around the house.

Basically, if this sort of thing works for you, then the movie as a whole should too:

It's more like Crank than Hot Fuzz.  And it has Monica Bellucci in it.

I sat down and watched EraserHead...

What the fuck did I just watch?! I didn't get what was going half the time and I have no idea what this movies' message was. Is there a point to this flick? I'm confused and scared.

Pro Tip: Avoid David Lynch.

There's no message or point, it's just something to experience.

It's Lynch's equivalent of an onscreen nightmare.  You're right to feel confused and scared.  And Lynch is an amazing director, dagnabbit.

Been going through old tapes looking for stuff to digitize for my digital media server, as a result been watching a lot of movies I taped off of HBO or whatnot back in the '80s.

Flashdance
Still a fun movie after all these years, even with it's bare-razor thin plot and the fact that it obviously isn't Jennifer Beals dancing.  Which is still distracting to me after all these years.  Either teach her to dance or hire an actress that can dance the part.

Twilight Zone The Movie
Forgot how creepy the Joe Dante segment of this film was.  Haven't seen this in years.

Porky's II The Next Day
Has a few laughs, but really awful in just about every way possible.

It's Lynch's weird way of describing how he felt when becoming a father.

I don't think it's anything. I think it's weird for the sake of weird. I think Lynch is laughing at us trying to figure out what  it means.

Wow, I think it made me angry.
