Black KKKlansman
To be honest I still am not sure what to make of this film. I definitely liked a lot of things about it, I was amazed that there was little to no violence in the movie. I got to say though I haven't heard the N word used that many times in a movie in a LONG time. You know you might think for a moment that in a certain context it's okay to use that word. However you gotta imagine that the white actors in the film must have had to really struggle with using that word because I can't imagine any actor who is looking forward to the days when it comes time to doing scenes where they say that word repeatedly. In my personal opinion, in very, VERY limited context it is okay to use that word, like when you're acting in a movie called Black KKKlansman.
Anyway it was a pretty good police drama about a sting operation infiltrating the KKK. There's a lot said about the Black Panthers. At one point early in the film the police chief says the Black Panthers are the single biggest threat to national security and I was like WOW, how our priorities change over the years, huh? Honestly, I'm way more afraid of the KKK than the Black Panthers.
In the end I was really impressed by the performance by the lead actor John David Washington as Ron Stallworth. There must be little in this world that's harder to stomach then really racist remarks at your own people and for you to act like it doesn't bother you one damn bit and still do your job as a cop at 100% efficiency is pretty hard work and majorly impressive.
I wouldn't say the movie was a total joy because I think it's designed more to be a think piece about race relations and defines how racism is so dangerous in America. I mean again, unless you're watching something like Pulp Fiction, I don't think you're going to come out of the theater smiling after hearing the N word so many times.
