There's be many go nowhere ROBOTECH projects over the years. I'll believe it when I'm watching it in the theater.

Sony is in a rush for new  franchise's  and they said they are fast tracking it,so we will see.

They're doing the same with GHOSTBUSTERS, and probably a lot of other franchises they chose out of a hat. Most of them probably won't even happen. Sony's just on the rebound after loosing SPIDER-MAN.

Not quite. Marvel and Sony share the same Spider-Man. Any Spider-Man solo/Spider-Man Universe movies will still be Sony, but Marvel can use him whenever they want. Marvel doesn't have to pay Sony, Sony doesn't have to pay Marvel.

So they're just hoping Marvel's Spider-Man will b e a hit so they can use the same one for their own future movie?

Yeah. Since Marvel's Spider-Man is going to play with the Avengers, I think Sony's hoping to steal that thunder for their solo Spider-Man movies.

Which isn't really a bad plan, honestly. Amazing Spiderman 2 made a good amount of money, and it does have it's fans, but doing more Spiderman movies extending off of that seems like it would keep going even farther off the rails into a Batman & Robin style disaster rather quickly.

James Wan Circling 'Robotech' for Sony
The filmmaker also has the offer and is in talks to direct Aquaman for Warners. Universal, meanwhile, wants him for Fast & Furious 8.

James Wan In Talks To Direct ‘Robotech’ For Sony
Quote from: Mike Fleming Jr
EXCLUSIVE:
Coming off steering the huge success of Universal’s Furious 7, director James Wan is in early discussions with Sony Pictures to direct Robotech, the feature adaptation of the 1980s sci-fi anime series that is being eyed as a worldwide franchise. Wan is one of the hottest directors in town after Furious 7‘s success — it has grossed $1.3 billion so far in worldwide box office — and has a lot of offers on the table. But I’m hearing he and Sony are going to try and make this work though the deal talks are in the beginning stages.

Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari and Atmosphere’s Mark Canton are producing a script from Michael Gordon, reuniting the trio who worked on 300. The original U.S. TV series Robotech was based on three different Japanese series and focused on the use of robotic technology found on a crashed alien starship that Earth used to fight off various alien invasions. The Harmony Gold-produced series has a place in the fanboy Hall of Fame for introducing a generation of American kids to the visual style and open-ended storytelling of anime.
