Christian Bale is the best!
« on: July 23, 2007, 08:39:16 PM »
Despite his appearance in Reign of FIre.
I originally posted this on the reign of fire discussion, but i decided this would be a better place for it. anyway,
I cannot wait to see Rescue Dawn! He is my favorite actor and I really enjoy watching his performances. My fave performances have been in the prestige and american psycho. I loved re-watching the prestige and

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

anyway, here is my ode to the bale thread.

I thought he made an awesome Batman, at the very least. I don't know much about him or his body of work outside that.

I actually first saw him when he was a kid in Empire of the Sun.  Probably one of the best child actor performances ever.  Bale is a natural actor and has some real skill.  It's a shame he's not considered A material.

Excellant scene choice wiseblood!
"Try making a reservation at Dorseia now you f**kin, motherf**ker!"

I have never scene newsies or empire of the sun. However, Equilibrium is one of his best films, and I would reccomend that for any first timers (seeing as it's not as intense as American Psycho or The Machinist ).
What was great about Equilibrium was that his character was slowly learning how to feel emotions again (in the post apocalyptic world where emotions are outlawed) and you can see and hear the characters transformation through Bale's facial features and voice.
Oh, and that voice. He was born in Wales, but he can change his voice in a way I have only seen the great voice over actors (Dan Castelleneta, Billy West, etc) due. If anyone has seen the abomination that is Captain Corelli's Mandolin they will understand. He was the only one with a convincing accent out of Nic Cage (no surprise really), Penelope Cruz (who figured she would use her spanish accent since it's so close  ???), and John Hurt (i have no idea what he was trying to accompolish)
Although this film did feature some bare bale bottom!

I think he is one of the best working today.

First movie I saw him in was when he was a kid in "Empire of the Sun" and he carried the whole movie.

Great, great actor.

I LOVE that movie.   To this day, when someone hands me their business card I think about the business card scene in the movie and my heart smiles.

The thing about Equilibrium is that Bale basically carried that movie by it's hind legs.  It was utterly ridiculous on its own.  I think Ultraviolet showed pretty conclusively what Bale brought to the equation.

Yeah, his real accent like in Reign of Fire is barely comprehensible.  He's supposed to be able to replicate any accent.  Like when he worked on Batman Begin, he did all of the promotional work in a midwestern accent out of respect, since Batman is an American icon.
