Fan Fiction?
« on: July 23, 2007, 06:20:08 PM »
Okay, fess up time:
Has anyone here written or enjoyed any fan-fiction?

Myself? Several years back, I wrote two short stories for the Dragonlance book series, and posted them on this fan run site. It has sinse been eaten up by someone else, and my stuff is gone, removing the evidence.
They got rated pretty high, though.
As for what I've read; very little. I went on a site to see what Kaiju fanfic was like, and hen slowly backed away once I got there. Damn scary at points.

I confess, I did read a few Janeway/Seven of Nine slash stories back in the day...

I always pictured Seven and B'Elanna as a hotter couple. :)

Though their pillow talk would probably be a bit stilted

Generally speaking, I find fan fiction to be fairly scary - some of the stuff people get up to in their dirty little minds is way worse than anything the authors themselves spew out (with the possible exception of Anne Rice's alter ego).

I have, however, participated in some interesting quasi-fan fiction on a gaming forum - though technically, it was more like role playing, since it was a forum community for a game that was in development. There were about 10 of us, and we were essentially writing a novel together from each of our character's perspective.

We were somewhere above 1,000 posts in the thread when the company developing the game went under and shut everything down - tragic.

I was more of a Buffy/Faith reader...

That sounds pretty fun. Maybe our next project should be to write a bad movie in the same manner.

I think I can see the appeal there...  :)

The problem I have with a lot of fan fiction is that it's all in the first person. Not as a conscious technique but because the writer cannot think outside their own head and describe multiple motivations.

Then, in the middle, you have Willow walk in.  Practically writes itself...

And not Harmony? Come on you want a least a little Buffy the Vampire Layer mixed in.

I'm sorry I was lost in revere at the thought of B and Harm and Faith and... 'scuse me a minute.
