Reposted from the Episode IX thread:

A possible plot has been leaked by a Reddit user, who is fairly credible because s/he also leaked Last Jedi plot details (well in advance) that were largely correct.

The redditor supposedly saw "early storyboards," which makes sense because Leia seems to be present late in the film.

My take is that the worldbuilding in the new trilogy is already horrible and contradictory, and this plot would make it worse.

A major problem (which I'm not the first to point out) in Force Awakens is that I had no idea how big the Resistance is, and why it was even called the "Resistance" or "Rebellion."  And how big is the Republic? Oh, multiple planets?  Obviously still opposed to the Empire and its descendant?  Then shouldn't Leia's military just be the Republic's Armed Forces?  Is it too much to ask who the protoganists are, and who/what they're fighting for?

As a writer, you can put off these questions for a while, but we do at least need an answer before you nuke the Republic.  Five (or so) planets were obliterated and I still didn't know what the stakes were.

In World War 2 terms, is this like Germany carpet bombing London, or is it like Germany nuking Paris, London, NYC, and Moscow all at once?  The answer turned out to be the latter, but IMO we didn't find that out until the end of Last Jedi when Leia's message was ignored and it was revealed that the Resistance had no known allies.

Again, just horrible worldbuilding.  Now, in the leaked plot, no rebellion has arisen even five years after the First Order obliterated the Republic and killed (?)illions, and it's not because Kylo's been squashing dissidents during a five-year reign of terror.  No, it's because he (the butcher of the Republic) is somehow seen as a benevolent ruler, and the idea of resistance is unpopular.  Fucking ridiculous.

We also may be getting another force user who's "effortlessly" fantastic at everything . . . alright then.
