At The Castro Theater: May 25th!
« on: May 02, 2007, 02:43:24 PM »
...

For those of you living near the Bay Area...
Don't miss the "vertically challenged monsters" triple feature at the Castro Theater:

May 25

Hosted By Jesse Hawthorne Ficks
ALL THREE FILMS for only $10.00!

 7:30p: Gremlins
 9:45p: Howard The Duck
11:59p (midnite): Troll 2

F 11:59p (midnite): Troll 2
Directed by Claudio Fragasso; 1990, 95mins

Finally after 17 years, this infamous and irrelevant sequel to Troll, will grace the big screen for the very first time! Originally made for the video shelf, Troll 2 has become one of the most disrespected horror films in recent history. But more remarkable is how so many people from all over the world have fallen in love with this genuine failure (See www.bestworstfilm.comNow i just need to figure out how to promote the Rifftrax for Troll 2 at the theater that night!... Suggestions?

That sounds completely awesome. Maybe the RiffTrax folks could issue some sort of $.50-off certificate for attendees who go to the site later.

That's not a bad idea!
Maybe they could issue a promotional code or something and put together a flier... i'd pass 'em out before and after the show.

Rifftrax should definitely be at this event. One idea I have is a burned CD featuring a sample of the Riff (much more effective than a flier)

... then again lets be honest... like 10 people will show up to a showing of Troll 2, right??  or am I vastly underestimating the rabid Troll 2 fan base?

For some reason, I picture a massive crowd all screaming "Troll 2!" over and over again and unable to say anything else. Kinda like the Fred Flinstone clones in the pilot episode. :^)

It's not that you're underestimating the Troll 2 fanbase... it's that you're underestimating San Francisco's weirdo movie scene! The Castro Theater itself is a destination for people, no matter what movie they're showing. However, in the last year or so they've hired a new programming director who has been responsible for all these great theme nights and  triple features.

They still have their Silent Film Festival and other sort of prestigious events. But with these kinds of movies they're attracting fans of Peaches Christ, Sleazy Sundays, and other midnight movie traditions from all over San Francisco.

Anyway... what i'm saying is that there will be lots and lots of people there. There always are for these things! The question is how do i spread the word of Rifftrax while i'm there?!

Rifftrax Live! is on May 28th... which is a Monday, and Memorial Day as well. Woo-Hoo! Holiday weekend!
So anyway, the Troll 2 screening is that same weekend... Friday at midnight!

It's a harmonic convergence!

Better yet, maybe they could arrange some sort of simulcast of the RiffTrax during the movie. I know I'll be there with my iPod on...
