They're back on track with this one. The riffing was solid and Al Adamson hasn't been tackled enough. In fact, this movie was almost competent for him, but still so bad and kind of creepy.

At this point, with two eps for me yet to watch, I'd say they need to go darker when the movie calls for it. This movie shouted out for it and they could have gone a lot darker.

Speaking of dark, look at this article about the film's director

Wow. I did not know that. Poor guy. And his wife had died of cancer just a few years before that (she was in Oozing Skull and in this one I believe she is the sexy woman who assists the magician).

Good God... Maybe it's insensitive to say so, but I imagine he'd appreciate going out that way.

Now back to the movie about the clairvoyant talking chimpanzee  :-\

Which, somehow, is only slightly less depressing.

We didn't have a problem getting through this like some people did. Wizards 1, on the other hand...

We enjoyed it. Not great, but very good, and...

The first host segment killed me. Crow's perfect deadpan responses - great comic timing.
Second fave bit from the entire season, behind the awesome Reptilicus rap.

Ditto

Just finished watching this again. I liked it a LOT better the second time around. So much so that it made me grateful for the revival!

I felt the same way. I think the first time I watch the episode I was mostly flabbergasted that this movie was even made. Now I've embraced the madness and it's one of my favorite episodes of the season.

Good lord, what is this movie?

Was this like Balloon Land and had some tie in to a real carnival? The parade at the end had me wondering.

I tried to find out by going on to imdb to see if there was some trivia.  I didn't find any related to the carnival itself, but I did get this little tidbit...

Quote
Following its initial 1981 release, the film disappeared and was considered "lost" for a long time until 2009 when a clean print was discovered in a warehouse. The film gained cult statuses after being shown on TCM Underground and received more exposure when it was featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return (2017).
