The Time Traveler's Wife
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:21:32 PM »
So this is book/movie news, but has anyone read the book The Time Traveler's Wife?  It's worth a read if you haven't.  Also, it's being made into a movie starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.

Won't be anything like the book, but might still be good.

I have read The Time Traveller's Wife and enjoyed it greatly. Reminded me of Octavia Butler's Kindred. (Except in Kindred it is the wife who inexplicably travels through time).

I liked the book WAY too much to see the movie. ESPECIALLY if it involves that yotch Rachel McAdams.

I enjoyed the book, though one part did make unintentionally laugh:

I think Rachel McAdams is a great actress, though since Chopper, Eric Bana hasn't done anything special.

Uh-oh. I've heard the book recommended many times, and was going to look for it, but if the ending's really sad I may chicken out! I don't do so well with sad endings!

Why would you spoil a book like that?

Don't listen to chinton anyway, sadness is relative.

Well, perhaps I'll be brave and risk it.  :) I just tend to get waaaaay too emotional over stories. It's a bad habit, and hard on the nerves, but I can't seem to help it.

It's not that sad. Not like when Bambi's mom dies or anything...

Okay, so on a scale of one to five Old Yellers . . .

Sorry. It's been a long day, and I just turned in my graduate thesis after a year of work, and I'm a little punchy.  :)

Oh, well, that sounds like it might be manageable.

If you like time travel books, I highly recommend "Job: A Comedy of Justice" by Robert Heinlein.  It's one of my all-time favorite books.

I thoroughly enjoyed Time Travelers Wife.  ** spoiler ** I especially enjoyed the transition of memory of Henry as the story progresses to when they meet.  And the relationship between Henry and his daughter Alba is touching.  Very thoughtful book.  Sad, funny, and interesting.  Don't need much more than that.
