If iRiffs are going to be down for a bit, but the forums will be up, does anyone have any interest in using that time to try another group effort?  The last one was over a year ago.  Especially if the site has a new design, it could get iRiffs in front of some different eyes.

Things we've considered in the past:

Any thoughts?

I love the idea. All of the previous ones have been very successful. I like the idea of serials, as I think they lend themselves to this sort of collaboration. If anything the repetition shows how different groups use the similar material in different ways.

And if you do a group project like this, I will go through and review every one.

We might be interested, but we've been having trouble getting together to work on stuff lately. (More than usual.)

Also, are iRiffs going down for a bit? I missed that news.
There it is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_serials

Here's a list from archive.org:

https://archive.org/post/261365/movie-serials-at-the-internet-archive

The thread is three years old, so we may still need to do a little digging to make sure we're doing something out of copyright.  A lot of the serials listed have later forum threads that have found copyright renewals.

I thought The Crawling Hand seemed to have a lot going for it (sci-fi, murder mystery, etc.), and it's sold by filmchest, so at least they think it's PD.  On the other hand, the detective character appeared in novels, a tv series in the 50s, so we may be a little fuzzy on trademark, and the book it's based on I can't tell whether it's PD or not (now, I haven't dug very far, and I'm certainly no intellectual property expert, so we can kick that around).

The Great Alaskan Mystery seems to have a lot going for it as well.  The only thing I don't like is the title.  We use these for promoting our groups, and there isn't a whole lot about the title that screams sci-fi/fantasy cheese (which I think sells for the PD VOD stuff).

The Whispering Shadow seems perfect, except do we really want to beat up on Bela Lugosi again? Of course we do, but is it a good idea?

Mystery Squadron also looks okay: https://archive.org/details/mystery_squadron_ep1  Masked villians are alaways fun.

That title sounds AMAZING! I've got two projects going as it is but I love doing the group projects.  If I can finish one project soon I might take on an episode of whatever gets picked.

I can't find it on archive.org (even in the forums), YouTube, or at Alpha Video.  Also, it's by Republic pictures, and they put a lot of their serials out as TV shows in the 1950s.  So there's a pretty good chance the copyright got renewed.  The title is perfect, though.  The Bob & Doug McKenzie references alone would've carried the run.

Oh man, that sounds delicious.

We might be interested. I will need to run this by Coach and see if he has time for it. My time is limited, but if it just a portion of a movoie or a serial, that should not be too difficult.

You can buy it for $9.95 on DVD here: http://serial-bowl.com/atomic_invaders.html
Apparently you can watch it for free at OVGuide

We probably need more interest than this to fill twelve chapters of a serial.  Any groups that are interested in participating, please reply, or we should probably shelve this for awhile.

Not all the groups frequent the forum very much. I would suggest sending out PMs to a bunch of them to see if they're interested.

Drawback Productions is interested.  I might even be able to do an early chapter and then a later one if it comes down to that.
