I admit, I rewatched the first two episodes and realized it took them a little while to find their stride. High point probably remains Spanish Inqusition  and another episode from around that time.
Also, 'At Last That 1948 Show' is worth a look. It was several of the crew along with Marty Feldman and some others that was a predecessor to it.
And lastly... Yelllowbeard. I know some people didn't care for it but for me it was great and held up over the test of time.

Looking at my grading sheet it does look like a triangle wave...  So far there are 4 distinct peaks.  Deepest low point just past half way through series 2.  I'm almost to the end of season 3.

It should be pointed out that the BBC didn't air the episodes in their production order, but rather took what they felt was the strongest episodes and aired them at the beginning and ending of the seasons, airing what they felt were the weakest in the middle of the season.

About sevenish days left to hand in your lists. In the meantime, here is the pilot for Out Of The Trees, the sketch show Graham Chapman made after Flying Circus ended. Ad we are very lucky this even exists. The BBC didn't like the pilot, and had it erased so they could reuse the tape ( the fate of so many Doctor Who episodes along with a lot of other classic BBC shows, and nearly Monty Python had not Terry Jones intervened. ) It was believed lost. However, it was discovered that Chapman had made a copy of the show which was found amongst his stuff. So, here it is.

Nice to finally see that pilot, I forgot Douglas Adams started out working with some of the Pythons.  I'll have to look for his 2 appearances in series 4.

One of those appearances he is wearing a surgical mask. So basically, looks like everyone else going outside today.

Six days to go until its time to hand in your lists...presuming nobody asks for another six days.  In the meantime, since it is Sunday, here is the  November 18th, 1979 episode of Friday Night, Saturday Morning featuring Paul Jones and The Blues Band singing Boom Boom, Out Go The Lights

...oh, and a debate between John Cleese and Michael Palin and Bishop Mervyn Stockwood and Malcom Muggeridge over if Life of Brian is blasphemous

Five days left to ask for an extension of the deadline.

In the meantime, since the weekend is over, here is the first three episodes of Rutland Weekend Television for those of you who already handed in your list. Rutland Weekend Television was the series Eric Idle did with Neil Innes after Flying Circus ended. Very likely you have seen the spinoff of this series, Ruttles: All You Need Is Cash, but not the series itself. Various reasons are given. That Idle and the BBC could never agree on the syndication or home video rights. That Idle and Innes could not agree on the copyrights. That Idle didn't like the show and doesn't want it released on home media. Whatever the reason, this is the only post Python series never to air on PBS. Thank god for YouTube.

List sent. I was a bit surprised that a few episodes that had some of my favorite skits ended up so low, but if it was the only good bit in a mediocre episode it just didn't raise it up enough.

List sent. I was a bit surprised that a few episodes that had some of my favorite skits ended up so low, but if it was the only good bit in a mediocre episode it just didn't raise it up enough.

This was one of the reasons I wanted to do an episode list rather than a skit only list. It's a lot more interesting to find out which episode people find the funniest rather than a list where you know  in advance Dead Parrot would be #1, Ministry of Silly Walks would be #2 and Lumberjack Song would be #3 and the rest of the LoC would be just as predictable. ( Also, as much as everyone thinks a skit LoC would have been a lot easier, think again. You would still need to rewatch every episode to find all the funny skits you forgot about. ) But with an episode LoC, it will be interesting to see how far back the episodes with the most popular skits fall, and how high up the list the forgotten episodes go. Also, so far there is a more diverse opinion on how the episodes should be ranked, so the final list will be a surprise to anyone.

Well, I got 3 lists submitted so far, hopefully there will be one or two more before the Saturday deadline. If you were planning to boycott this LoC and are having second thoughts, time is running out. It is possible to read the aforementioned episode guide page on Wikipedia ad throw together a list within 20 minutes. But if no one else is still working on a list or still watching episodes then it appears Saturday will be the deadline and the LoC will begin on Sunday. In the meantime, here is the first three episodes of  the second season of Rutland Weekend Television.

Two days left before the deadline. Since no one else is notifying me they are working on a list or mentioning it here, I am going to assume all lists are in, but just in case not officially close the deadline until Sunday 1am when I check the PMs and this thread for the final time. So basically if you don't send in a list or ask for an extension of the deadline by Saturday 11:59PM then you are shit out of luck.   If you were planning to sit this one out but are having second thoughts, just remember it will be another 100 LoCs before this topic is ever ( if ever ) repeated. It is possible to compile a go-by-your-gut-not-so-accurate list really fast by just reading this page:

In the meantime. here are the lineal episodes from Season 2 of Rutland Weekend Television

The deadline is tomorrow.  That means time has just about run out if you were contemplating binge watching the entire series to come up with a last minute list. The 45 episodes of Flying Circus and the two bonus episodes made for German television take no less than 24 hours to watch. That's going non stop with no breaks whatsoever, and does not count having to wait for discs to load and the minute and a half wait to get through the legal notices and animated menu of the A&E DVDs. And doesn't count the extra 90 minutes the 1999 reunion episode or each movie runs for. ( more or less ). So basically, you would need to start right this second and give up eating, sleeping and pooping for the next  24 hours ( 33 hours to refresh watching the movies and reunion special ).  And then after that, compile a list within a few minutes to beat the deadline. I wouldn't recommend it.

It is, however, not too late to ask for an extension of the deadline. And if you are a fan who has seen the episodes and movies many times, compiling a list via memory can take as little as 20 minutes. Just go to the Wikipedia episode page to get the episode names.
It doesn't list the two German episodes, so if you want to know which one had the Hearing Aid skit or the Little Red Riding Hood skit then go to this page:

In the meantime, here are a few television specials from the 70s starring John Cleese. The first is Elementary My Dear Watson which was a pilot for a series that would have had Cleese playing Sherlock Holmes.

Finally, a comedy special Cleese starred in for Norwegian television called To Norway, Home of the Giants

DEADLINE
DAY!

I am pretty sure there will be no more lists sent in, but just in case someone is still working on their list, decided at the last minute to participate, or just read this thread recently and started late, I am sticking t the agreed upon deadline of this being the final 24 hours to send in a list or ask for an extension. If I hear nothing from no one by midnight then anything later will be ignored. Also, it would be pretty nice to have the LoC begin on Easter Sunday.

In the meantime,  here are the last of the Monty Python related videos to help the rest of you pass the time while waiting for the LoC to start. It's amazing how prolific the members of Monty Python actually were during the run of Flying Circus. They weren't just writing and performing on their own show, but were providing content for other programs as well. For example, this short made for a European May Day special in 1971, which aired once across Europe and not again until 1999 when the Python's aired it as part of their 30th Anniversary Special.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/XchcjH2zOOc" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/XchcjH2zOOc</a>

Aside from the May Day special and the two episodes of Flying Circus made for German television, they Pythons also filmed this skit for a Dutch television show in 1973
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/XM8sGTGxnwg" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/XM8sGTGxnwg</a>

Also in 1973 they contributed to an industrial film for Guinness promoting their world record organization.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/H5bNcnPqtb4" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/H5bNcnPqtb4</a>
And a year after that, another industrial film for Guinness on how to clean a beer tap.

The deadline has passed.

In other words: The line is dead. It is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone on to meet it's maker. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in piece. It's metabolic  processes are now history. It's kicked the bucket, shuffled off it's mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-line.

The actual LoC thread shall start immediately.
