Reference question: "It's mighty cold"?
« on: January 13, 2014, 06:26:16 AM »
I've been watching this again, and I've finally been bugged enough about a reference I can't figure out.

About 58 minutes in, when the the basketball team is crushing whatsisname's spirit, they chant a little bit:

TEAM: "Get your head in the game!"
MIKE: "... into a Slim Jim! Awww... I thought we were doing the other chant."
...
TEAM: "Get your head in the game!"
MIKE: "It's mighty cold... OKAY, that one was my fault."

The "Slim Jim" bit is obviously a "Snap into a Slim Jim" reference. However, I can't figure out the "It's mighty cold" bit. It sounds like he's singing a part of a song, but my Google Fu is failing me. (And it's a short enough snippet that I might be mishearing him...)

Any help or insight?

Thanks in advance!

It's a reference to "Full Metal Jacket."

Mike is finishing a chant (actually a running cadence) from the boot camp portion of the movie:

"I don't know, but I've been told
Eskimo pussy is mighty cold"

Okay; I can see that.

I'm quite familiar with that chant, but there was something off in the delivery that made it a real puzzler for me; I think it's because he made it sound like an '80s "Life in a Northern Town"-type power ballad. (Since the easiest fix -- include more of the original chant -- would've been impossible without being offensive, I probably would've gone with, "... but I've been told / Esk... OKAY, that one was my fault.")

Anyway, thanks so much; I can die in wisdom now.  :)
