#24 If I Had $1000000 by Barenaked Ladies

I like early Barenaked Ladies. It's not like they ever really had edge, but I prefer the tinge of sadness in their otherwise fun-lovin' veneer that has been pushed further in the background as they got more successful (pinch me has it, but it is in favour of a song that I'm not that fond of). Of course, this isn't one of those songs, but it is fun.

As a Devo fan, I love this song. There are little nods to some of Devo's other works, (there's one really noticeable one to "Deep Sleep". And it isn't surprising that Mothersbaugh is impressed, since the song itself is the essence of Devo's message, by "devolving" songs that sing about devolution that uses catchphrases and slogans and makes it almost nothing BUT.
I wouldn't say that this is great, but I have fond memories of it. A friend first played it for me on an 8-track that tried to sell it as somehow Looney Tunes related.

Obviously, most people think of the Muppets version, but no matter which version you hear, it is an ear worm.

A true classic. Of course, not many people are familiar with the original version.

I like this one not because I think it is funny, but there is something genuinely unsettling to it.
