A special nationwide 3D screening of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary TV special “Day of the Doctor” grossed a stunning $4.8 million at the U.S. box office.

What makes this particularly impressive: That’s from one night. The 75-minute “Day of the Doctor” screened in 660 theaters as a one-night-only special event Monday and averaged $7,155 per location, with 320,000 tickets sold. Granted, the tix were $15 a pop, so that certainly helped.

I'm not surprised, when I checked for tickets 3 of the 6 showings were sold out at the King Of Prussia theater.  They had it in both 2D and 3D.  Unfortunately I didn't get home from work until after 7, and the theater is a half hour drive away so 7:30 was not possible, and I got too tired to make it to the 10:00 showings.  They got some of my money already since I bought it on Vudu, and will buy the 3D Blu-Ray when it comes out.  Really can't wait to watch it in 3D.

If you've got a 3D system be sure to get the 3D Blu-Ray, there are some really cool 3D scenes, and the entire thing has a nice realistic 3D to it (as do most thing shot with 3D cameras).

3rd time watching it and the Tom Baker scene still amazes me, I know it's coming but I'm still thinking "no way, it's Tom Baker!".

I can't believe Tom still has that booming voice.

Yeah, apparently he's doing some Big Finish audio productions now, so you can actually hear him be the Doctor.

Watched the special for the 4th time, I'm still catching previously unnoticed little bits here and there each time...

I'd like to catch some previously unnoticed bits of Clara, oh that's terrible naughty who is controlling my typing hands

Uber pumped for the Christmas special, crazy to think we'll be wrapping up Matt's run.
