I think I have seen enough that I will only watch that when it becomes a Riff.  I can see it being a Rifftrax or someone good making an iRiff out of it.  Then it is cheap DVD shopping time.

Mmm... I disagree.  I think that it could be more visceral, but there are always clever ways around blood and gore if you are imaginitive.  But yeah, it should at least feel like the characters had to deal with that.

As for unhappy ending, while I'm not like Thrifty who very much dislikes happy endings, I don't see why.  Granted, perhaps they should throw more weight behind the fact that BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE DEAD!  That said, you can't say you dislike Shawn of the Dead, can you?  That had a happy ending.

The happy ending in Shaun of the Dead felt earned, I thought.

In World War Z, the ending is hopeful, but not a happy ending because the war isn't over.

We watch game shows to experience the money.  We watch soap operas to experience the sex.  We watch zombie movies to experience the death.  Hopeless, relentless, inevitable death.  not just other people dying; us dying, the world dying, all hope dying.  Its natural to feel the urge to experience death vicariously in order to practice the idea in your mind to prepare for your own fate, to digest the concept so to speak.

Well said, but I think you are underselling the ugliness of humanity that makes the zombie genre so rich.
