X-Files
« on: March 12, 2007, 05:24:03 AM »
I didn't see a topic started for this show yet...so here we go...

I have a soft spot for the first 6 seasons of the X-Files. Not only did I think the show was better before it move to L.A., but I liked the character the show had when it was filmed in Canada (BC)

The show was still acceptable (in my mind) when it was filmed in LA, but it slowly degraded as the seasons when on. And the season finale was the real kicker.

x-files = cool, never cared too much for the conspiracy episodes though, mostly liked the "independent" episodes

Same here. "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" is just beautiful.

At first the 'Conspiracy' eps were intriguing, but they very soon obtained the 'never cry wolf' feel to them.
And yes, the stand alone eps were better.

It's all good, s'far as I'm concerned. Wasn't too taken with the first season but once the second season got underway, I became all hardcore. Right until the end. Stand-alones, conspiracy stuff, it was all good.

I used to love X-Files. When I got into watching it, I was in junior high, and there was a sort of fascination with me and all my friends regarding the supernatural and all that. But after getting into high school, I quickly lost interest. Each episode seemed to get lamer and lamer, and the final series finale was just horrendous haha. Oh, and the movie -- perfect riff material.

I think the idea is cool, though. And none of the teenie-bopper wannabe shows that are out now could possibly top the original.

I loved the brief riffing it got during one of those MST3K 'Annual Summer Blockbuster' preview specials. I know one day it will get the full treatment. To me, its one of those movies I can enjoy stand alone or with RiffTrax help.

I agree. I think the X-Files had allot of character to it. It didn't seem like they used too many CGI graphics...well at least not when compared to the 'teenie-bopper' wannabe's. X-files was more 'lets use a costume' as apposed to 'we can do that with a computer' attitude. Also, the x-files was on more of a serious note then say Buffy.

and p.s. I thought Scully was hot, and she seemed to get hotter as the series "grew".

Want a perfect example of all that's wrong with Hollywood? The network DIDN'T WANT HER. Chris Carter had to campaign relentlessly to get Fox to
accept Gillian Anderson as a lead.

Gillian Anderson is still hot too!  She has a small role in Last King of Scotland.

Really?!... Gillian Anderson?
Yeah... i'll pass on Gillian Anderson. But if you guys are into her i think my mom has a few friends i could probably hook ya' up with~

Anyway, we all used to converge in my dorm room for The X-Files. I loved that show for a long time, but eventually i just couldn't care less. The monster episodes were fun (and by monster, i mean any stand-alone episode) but my favorites were always the conspiracy threads that were woven into each season. All the rest just seemed like filler... really fun, but filler like monster-of-the-week kinda' stuff.

Then of course it started going straight down that bottomless hole where Lost seems to be heading. Nothing ever got settled and it got really frustrating until i just 'effing quit. You can only dangle a carrot for so long...

PS - The X-Files movie would be a great, great Rifftrax... gives-free-bicycles-man!

Every aspect of the production of The X-Files was amazing, and would've been groundbreaking if other shows had bothered to match the effort the X-Files crew put in. Too bad Chris Carter had no freaking clue where he was going with the show. Sad.

I was a HUGE X-Files fan. I mean HUGE. I'm embarrassed by how much I loved the X-Files. However, by the time the last season rolled around I was so disgusted by how lame it had gotten that I missed over half the season.

Seasons 2-5 were really the best seasons and I'd even say there was a lot of cool stuff in season six, but 7-9 were stupid. I would also argue that Monica Reyes is one of the stupidest characters ever introduced in a television series.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them...well, I have others.

I was a pretty big X-Files fan starting during the 2nd season. While the "conspiracy" shows were definitely great in the beginning, it became pretty apparent that answers were never coming... Overall, I preferred the stand-alones. The feature film left me underwhelmed... almost on the same level as Episode One did. I slowly drifted away from the show after that... only caught a handful of the episodes where Mulder was replaced by a T2000.
