Gremlins -- never cared for it. Gave me a headache (sorry). But hey, it has Phoebe Cates in it, who I had a crush on...which reminds me of a movie I forgot. D'oh!

The Thing and Big Trouble were on my honorable mentions. I also enjoyed Naked Gun and Wrath of Khan.

Of course I think Robo-Cop and Brazil are brilliant.

The Coens? I haven't seen Raising Arizona in ages, but I do remember liking it... though I dig Blood Simple more. (never cared much for the one everyone else slobbers on about, Big Lebowski)

I enjoy The Big Lebowski, but it's overrated as hell.

Remake: This seems like it'd be right up Stephen Chow's alley. He directed Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, which have a similar action/comedic sensibilities (although maybe taken a little less seriously). As for who could fill Kurt Russell's tank top...Chris Hemsworth.
Probably the best remake recipe thus far. :)

Alright, Carpenter's two best (and, by extension, the best the 80s had to offer) have made it on. Good show all around, although 12 would've been a more fitting number for The Thing. Just sayin'

Robocop is a film that (much like Total Recall and Starship Troopers after it) is a very strange film, in the sense that it has no business working as well as it does. For real, it's a perfect blend of action, comedy/satire, and effects (save maybe the long arms on the final window drop). It's as smart as it is goofy, and I'm glad it's still rightly regarded as a bona-fide classic.

And while I enjoy Gremlins, I didn't quite feel the need to put it on my list. That said, had the sequel come out one year earlier (thus qualifying for the list), it would've made my list in a heartbeat.

There were a number of films that I left off because I knew they'd not need my vote to get on the final countdown.

As I mentioned before, the entire makeup of (most) of my list was based around this idea. That said, even if I hadn't been gaming things, I still don't think Gremlins would've made it. For whatever reason, the first one doesn't grab me as much as it does for other folks. Probably because New Batch is where it's at.

Choose your own forum (for those who seem to think it's their forum exclusively)

a) Still seen everything listed so far but having a lot of fun with the countdown, so many of my list is already in I'm really interested to see what's to come.

b) Dismissive take on the opinions of others because my taste is obviously the correct one.

Yeah, I love Gremlins 2: New Batch too. Never understood the hate for it. I appreciate that it is different from the original, and I think that's a good thing.

And feel free to speculate what's in the Top 10.

That would be my guess, top three at the very least.

If not empire, then Raiders. I'm sure there's a third super-lock, but for whatever reason it's not coming to mind.

Ishtar

In retrospect, I should've put this one on my list for the sake of it. Near the bottom, but there all the same.

Because it actually is a pretty funny movie.
