Okay, so I am proud to announce, I have lost my goddamned mind!
The list will now be a Top 100 (although I love Quiptracks suggestions of it being a Top 80). So I will revise the initial post. You can submit a list of up to 50. Everything higher than 25 will count as 25 points each.

EDIT: Anyone who has already submitted a list to me can resubmit if they want. I will also send you back your lists if you didn't keep them.

Um... what?  If I understand that correctly, that's kind of screwed up.  That means you can have 26 25-point movies.  That stil puts people who want to come up with 50 rather than 25 at a huge advantage.  Also, after a certain point, it doesn't matter the order between 1-26

I'm just trying to lower the advantage, while still allowing people with much longer lists to include a lot more movies they love.

We could make it a Top 100, but not discount points for entries of 25 or more. A list of 25 would count for 50 points for #1 and 26 points for #25. Then those that want to can submit a larger list, but those who don't can just send in the usual 25. Those who don't know how to narrow down their list of 40 could just send in what they have. Everyone wins. (Except Darth Geek, who now has to write 100 entries, so that's all his call!)

Yeah, if my points aren't discounted if I only submit 25, I'm game.

I though you were for this. The last thing I want is for something fun like the List of Crap to be controversial. I just know that there are SO MANY fun movies that a lot of people would have trouble whittling them down ( I know I sure will).

But then it doesn't really make much difference about what your top movies are.  It just doesn't make sense.  Now I'm against the 50 choices thing from the get, but if you HAVE to do that (and I don't think you do), wouldn't it make more sense to have the 50 go like this?

50 - 25 points
49- 25 points
48 - 24 points
47 - 24 points

Et cetera.  Again, I wouldn't like it, but I would have less of a beef if you INSIST that 50 movies is what is needed.

Now, I'd rather you just stick to 25 because 1) you will get a lot of lists due to nostalgia and the average age of forum members, 2) I think it's very possible to get up to 100 without having to have people vote for more things due to the numbers of submissions and 3) it'll guarantee fairness without confusing new rules.

I guess I thought he was saying that every movie int he lower half of the list (25-50) would count equally as 25 points each. Did I misunderstand him?

That is what I meant.

The way I read this

Everything higher than 25 will count as 25 points each.

Is that higher meant ranking, meaning 1 though 26 are worth 25.

50 - 25 points
49- 25 points
48 - 24 points
47 - 24 points

Oops, personal fuck up.  I meant

1 - 25
2- 25
3 -24
4 - 24
5 - 23
and so on.
Still, as you can see it is confusing.

I guess I thought he was saying that every movie int he lower half of the list (25-50) would count equally as 25 points each. Did I misunderstand him?

That's still confusing to me and weird.

Now I completely understand the appeal of trying to accommodate a popular subject, but I think that the popularity of the subject will do most of the work.  Afterall, back in the 3rd list of crap, when it was just starting to take off, there was a list o 25 from each person but the full list came to 65.  And I think it won't be hard to get to 100 with just the 25 points!  I know your intentions are good, so don't think I'm outraged, but I think it'll make sense just to stick with the standard rule set and you'll find the adage "the more the merrier" will prove true.  Except for you.  Cause the host has to crunch numbers.

So in closing: I'm not always opposed to strange new ideas, but in this case, I say go with List of Crap classic.  No special edition crap where Compound shoots first or Anais steps on Tripe's tail.

I'm totally cool with keeping it consistent and having everybody submit twenty-five. It'll certainly force people to pick the best of the best, or their favorite favorites, if you will.

This is much more concise than me.  Agree 100 per cent.

I could do 50 easily, there's a massive field to pick from.

Alright folks, let's be serious here for the moment.

It's the 80s. That means John Carpenter flicks better make up a good fourth of all your lists, easy.

This is the best post that's ever been posted.

Yeah the ranking system kind of loses its weight if you change how it works after #25. If you just counted EVERY #1 as 50 points and numbered it down to 1 point for #50, then score the people who submit 25 exactly the same way (50 for 1st place, 26 for #25) then the playing field is still even. Everyone still gets the big vote for 50, and those who can think of more entries, have more lesser-point values to spread to their bottom 25.

So could I, but a lot of LoC topics have a massive field to pick from. That just means you have to do some serious cutting; it's just the way of the LoC.

It is something we should think about in the future, however. Like I said, we could've easily done a top comedies of the eighties. Perhaps we should consider the possibility of breaking future film decade lists into genres. Anyway, just an idea.

I get it.  I just don't think it's a good idea.  At all.

*sigh* Okay, I though everyone was behind this idea, but apparently not.
