In the future, we'll switch to metric time (not sure how else to explain that "1:72" business.)

I think that's "one second, 72/100ths of a second." That's how most stopwatches time things (although they usually use a format like "1.72," which isn't anywhere near as goofy.

Of course, there are still plenty of other things that don't make sense . . .

I learned that a nagging wife on a video car phone can't discern the loud noises of gunfire and tires squealing.

I learned that there are henchmen with worse accuracy than Star Wars Stormtroopers.

I learned that if a dispatcher at the local precinct house won't break the rules for you, just threaten to beat him up so he will.

I learned that if you lure a guy out into an open junkyard with the intention of killing him, then post several snipers at high vantage points, you won't go to the trouble of actually shooting him.
