'Cosmopolis' Trailer: 'Twilight' Vampire Pees in Car, Shoots Hole in Hand

Quote
The first trailer for David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis is here, and it is not safe for work nor safe for those Twilight fans hoping to keep an idealized vision of Robert Pattinson preserved in their mind as well as their flesh. In this nerve-wracking preview for the Don DeLillo novel adaptation, Pattinson has unsettling sex with non-Bellas, pisses in a limousine, nonchalantly shoots a hole through his hand, and begs a naked woman to do the same to his anemic chest. The trailer is also NSFSbarro, in that I can't imagine the shot of a giant rat eyeing the pizza chain could possibly be good for business.

Paramount Reinventing Mark Twain with 'Huck'

Quote
Paramount is giving Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer a 21st century makeover.

The studio has picked up a spec by Andy Burg titled Huck, with Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark producing along with Matt Lopez.

The title characters, of course, are 19th century creations of author Mark Twain and are known for their mischievous teenage adventures – Sawyer, presented as a small-town, all-American boy, is something of a schemer, while Finn, who is more of an outcast, is faced with tougher moral choices. The duo first appeared in Twain's 1876 novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Twain continued their tales in three additional books. There have been several film and TV adaptations of the material, from 1918's Huck and Tom, starring Jack Pickford and Robert Gordon, to Disney's 1995 version Tom and Huck, starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Renfro.

The storyline is being kept under wraps, but the project is described as a re-imagining in the vein of Snow White and the Huntsman, focusing on Sawyer and Finn as adults. There also are supernatural elements to the script.

Chernin and Clark are the producers behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes and are in production on Oblivion, Universal’s sci-fi project starring Tom Cruise. Lopez is a screenwriter whose credits include Bedtime Stories and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Huck is the latest project Burg has set up at Paramount; Hellified, a supernatural actioner with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing, also calls the studio home. He is repped by Brucks Entertainment and Sloane Offer. ICM repped the scribe in the deal.

I read "supernatural elements" as "Huck and Tom are now a pair of wise-cracking alien prospectors."

Huck and Tom now hunt vampires (and each other!) in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland in which they're forced to play games.  Hungry games.  Also, it will have slow-motion CGI gore.

And to tie it in with the recent board game phenomenon, they'll add African wildlife and call it Hungry Hungry Hippo Games.

Whoa.

Box Office Report: 'Hunger Games' Posts Official Opening of $152.2 Million

Quote
With every box office dollar now counted, the final opening tally for goliath The Hunger Games is $152.5 million.

That's slightly lower than Lionsgate's Sunday estimate of $155 million, but it doesn't change the movie's vaunted status.

Hunger Game shattered a number of records, and is the highest opening ever for a nonsequel or film debuting outside of summer. (Previous record-holder was Alice in Wonderland, which debuted to $116 million in March 2010.)

Just as impressive, Hunger Games delivered the third-highest opening of all time domestically, besting Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million), The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8 million) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 ($138.1 million).

Hunger Games ranks behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2 ($169.2 million) and The Dark Knight ($158.4 million).

Directed by Gary Ross and produced by Nina Jacobson, Hunger Games is based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling young adult novel and headlines Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. Box office observers believe Hunger Games has a shot at ultimately earning $350 million to $400 million at the domestic box office, although fan-fueled film properties often drop off more quickly than other tentpoles.

Hunger Games isn't doing the same blockbuster business overseas, where it opened to a solid, but unspectacular, $59.3 million. The pic did best in English-speaking territories.

They must have changed the projections at the last minute because only last week it was projected to make around $120M. This thing is a monster. To smack the shit out of well-established, super-hype machines like New Moon and Breaking Dawn is pretty amazing.

This thing is a trilogy, too. Hello, billion-dollar franchise.

Trilogy? You just know that they can Twilight/Harry Potter/Hobbit this bitch and stretch the series out.  I still haven't seen it, but going by the positive word of mouth and the fact that I really enjoyed the books, I'm looking forward to it.

I think it's already been announced that they're going to split the movie of the third book into two movies: http://screenrant.com/hunger-games-trilogy-4-movies-benk-118021/

As is the style of the times, it seems.

This trailer has been out for a while, but I think this looks good.  (Just remembered how awesome Steve Carell was in Anchorman and thought of this).

I like what I'm seeing here, and I fucking love Aubrey Plaza. I like the guy who plays the journalist as well; he's great on New Girl.

I feel like I've already seen this movie.

Chloe Moretz in Negotiations to Star in 'Carrie'

Quote
Chloe Moretz is in negotiations to star in Carrie, the latest take on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King.

MGM is behind the movie and with the high pedigree of Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) in the director’s chair and a script by playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the moviemakers are hoping to make an elevated thriller that can stand next to the 1976 Brian De Palma classic.

“Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Peirce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!” tweeted Moretz, who got the offer for the highly coveted role early Tuesday morning.

Moretz will play the title character, a girl with a strict and abusive mother whose onset of puberty brings telepathic and telekinetic powers. The girl goes from being from a social outcast to prom queen but goes on a rampage after a horrible prank, destroying her high school and town. Sissy Spacek played the title role in the De Palma movie.

Moretz is no shrinking violet when it comes to adult material. One of her earliest film appearances was in the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror, and she starred in Let Me In, the American remake of Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In. She also starred as a foul-mouthed assassin in comic-book adaptation Kick-Ass.

Moretz is awesome. Not sure what to think of the idea of remaking it. There's clearly some serious talent involved.

Well, it's not like this is the first time she'd been involved in a remake of questionable necessity.

She's a great little actress.  I'm a little concerned that her or the Fanning sisters will become the next Lindsay Lohan, though, and ruin any careers they may one day have.
