With Victorino it's a lot of taking the bad with the good.  He's still pretty fast, makes some great plays because he can get to the ball quick, he can steal if he's paying attention.  The bad is that he tends to forget how to play baseball, making really stupid mistakes, if things are going bad they stand out, if things are going well it's easy to shrug them off.

I was reading one of the reasons to bring him in might be to get some life into the clubhouse after things being so poisonous.

And WTF! Chooch, getting suspended for 25 games for taking an amphetamine?  Details are pretty hard to find but it seems like he admitted taking it.

He admitted taking Adderall (however its spelled). Really not much in the news about it though probably because of all the NFL guys getting suspended for the same thing around the same time.

Proof that playing for the Cardinals means you live forever, hall of famer Red Schoendienst is celebrating his 90th birthday and still looks great.   He goes to spring training every year and still wears a uniform on the bench as a coach.

One of my favorite lines recently is listed below and still means he is sharp.

Schoendienst, who was feted Friday night with a pre-90th birthday party at Mike Shannon’s Steaks and Seafood restaurant, surely couldn’t have imagined this long a life after the 1958 season when he became ill with what later was diagnosed as tuberculosis while he was playing with the National League champion Milwaukee Braves.

“Of course, I couldn’t imagine having a cellphone in my back pocket either,” Schoendienst joked.

Think I'll just rename this thread and add 2013, since we only got to 18 pages in 2012.

Wanted to do this but it's seems you cant do text formatting in subject lines.

So, the old third to first fake pick off has officially been changed to a balk.

Always thought it was odd that it was allowed, if you are going to call a fake throw to one base a balk then it should apply to all.

I assume this now applies to second base as well, so the spin move to second is affected, I guess the pitcher will have to throw the ball to second now instead of holding onto it if there is no play?  If so then the "speeding up the game" argument of the new rule is shot, I'm pretty sure the spin to second is done way more often than the third to first move.

Fantasy Baseball is back!

For anyone who wants to join, Head To Head league is up, Razzball is up (although I can't remember the login for the Dummy Team), and Roto will follow shortly.

If you want in and you aren't a returning team just let me know & I'll post the league info.

All leagues are on Yahoo.

Here's the Razzball info:

Quote
League ID#:   18032
League Name:   AlfredoAceves Anger Mgmnt Club
Password:   bobbyv
The idea of this league is to construct a team that is terrible. But you can't do it by grabbing bench players since you need plate appearances (or batters faced) to get points.  It's weird, but kinda fun.

Traditional Head To Head league:
Quote
League ID#:   17976
League Name:   Angels In The Troutfield
Password:   biogenesis

Classic Roto league:
Quote
League ID#:   22782
League Name:   Werth Every Penney
Password:   Sandwiches
