Lwaxana is a character I mostly don't like but I want to. It's not that she's all horned up, it's that she can clearly read minds and that still doesn't stop her from hitting on people that ARE VERY CLEAR THAT THEY ARE NOT INTO IT. But the actress gets to shine in the moments where that aspect of the character is put on the backburner and we get to see her humanity. The season seven episode where we learned
is powerful stuff, as is her heart to heart with Odo in her first DS9 appearance (despite starting the episode creeping on someone who is 100% and defiantly ace). She's a character so close to being actually really good. I don't think they need to stop focusing on her being all libidinous or tone down her overbearing personality. I just wish the writers didn't feel that meant being a sexual predator. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are issues with a lot of Star Trek characters, like Geordi, who has some very uncool sexual politics, but Lwaxana has hers very front and center and when she is introduced in an episode, that's largely where we start with her.
Also, something else I noticed: ambassadors in Star Trek are the worst. Like, Lwaxana and Sarek might be the best because the rest are pompous asses who keep mouthing off and lack, you know, diplomacy. Even the one other Vulcan ambassador we meet on DS9 seems to be overly pushy for his position.
