Well they were almost right about TNG, up until season 3 anyway. It also took until season 3 for DS9 to find its creative footing.

Have to wonder what season 2 of TNG would have been like if there wasn't a writers strike.  Even with the strike there are a number of very good episodes in that season.  The bad ones in season 2 are still way better than the bad ones in season 1.

When it aired I liked early DS9 much more than later, but now with binge watching those later seasons work better.   When it aired I hated that they closed off avenues of new exploration or contact with new stuff in order to focus on war for several seasons, but binge watching it works better as a drama about the characters.

Absolutely, The Child isn't half as bad as Code of Honor, The Naked Now, or maybe even Justice.  First season had some really awful episodes, episodes not rivaled in awfulness until Voyager.

I want to know, did every Trek fan here get to see Star Trek 4 when it originally came out in theaters? I ask because that movie blew me away. I was only 8 when it came out but I found it incredible. I think the thing that drew me in so much was the fact that the whales they made for this movie were so amazingly photo-realistic that I was 100% fooled. Those creatures, in spite of not being the real thing somehow were so real. I mean it's easy to fool kids but even when you're that age you can swear on a stack of Bibles that something you saw in a movie was the real thing and think you're actually saying nothing but the truth.

I saw The Voyage Home the week it came out, it had very broad appeal, people I knew that were not Star Trek fans liked it.

Technically speaking, the next Star Trek movie will be the fourth in the new series of movies. Here's to hoping they come up with something half as amazing as The Voyage Home is.

No I don't think I did.. If I remember correctly, I waited till it came out on VHS.
I was 16 then and I don't know why but this one just didn't catch my attention back in the day. Haven't watched it in a long time so maybe I should revisit it again and get another take on it :-\

I don't remember what year it was, but not too much long after IV's release on VHS we got the "Directors edition" or something where they presented the film on the VHS in its original theatrical aspect. For the time that was interesting(not to mention novel) especially since most other movies we had were either pan and scan or just chopped the sides of the screen off to fill the whole screen of the TV.
