I can see some poor teacher playing this in the late 70's, looking up from the back of the room and going, "the hell?"

The key words here are "in the late 70s."  A disproportionate number of Rifftrax's most pointless, outhouse-rat-insane shorts seem to originate from that era.  The teachers back probably embraced the madness, or were at least inured to it.

I agree with the post about laughing at every line.  I'm not sure what it was about this short...but theRifftrax treatment of it was one of the best in while.
