Prophecy was the first PC game my brother and I ever bought.  It is still one of my favorite games of all time.  I think Wing Commander 4 is my favorite in the series but Prophecy is the only game that will run on my modern computer.  I wish all these games would turn up on GOG at some point.

gog.com released Wing Commander: Privateer a while back when they signed a deal with EA Games. On Thursday they're going to announce the next batch of "Old School" EA Games. Maybe more Wing Commander goodness will show up?

I only really played Prophecy, it was pretty fun.  For starfighter games my go to were the X Wing/TIE Fighter games.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Does GOg let you download to a flash drive and then install the games on your computer later?

Yep. However, it's a 26 MB download, smaller than most Rifftrax. Even on dialup, downloading it shouldn't take too long.

I loved WC 3 and 4 back in the day (on the 3DO, no less), but those are the only ones I ever played. Not sure if the nostalgia would stand the test of time, though. A lot of games I loved way back when make my head hurt these days (FFVII especially).

I think they stand up pretty well.  There are not that many space shooters out there any more and I am a big fan of some of the British actors they got to play parts in the video clips so the last time I played them(about 5 years ago)they were still good.  Wing Commander 5 works with windows 7 and can be had cheap you should give it a try.

So true. I don't remember much of the actual gameplay, but I definitely remember the "movie" sections. And that one of the love interests in WC 3 is a porn star (which I only learned in the last few years).

I played (and finished) Wing Commanders 1,2 and 3 (including the add-ons) and Privateer. It always bugged me in the first two games how they kept a leaderboard for all the characters, and you'd have, like, a hundred kills racked up and the next closest guy would have something like 15. Afterburner slides ruled.

I never liked the series as much once it switched to 3D graphics. 3 was decent, though Hobbes being a traitor pissed me off, but I stopped playing them after that.

Someone needs to riff the Wing Commander movie.

It's about a gig and a half Doc, so you may be there a while.
