And of course, "A Day at the Circus", because watching clowns wrap legs and broom each other's clowny bottoms is like being stabbed through the brain with a rainbow, and I like that sort of thing.

Haven't revisited this thread in a while!  Now that I have seen A Day At The Circus, I would have to say that the clown spanking scene is even more disturbing than anything Mr. B Natural did.  Thanks for putting that back in my head!!!  :P

But truly the most disturbing short overall is "Catching Trouble" - ah, the days when animal cruelty was an accepted practice!  :gouge:

    • Yep, I have a deviantART gallery. But it's pretty cheerful drawings-- no angsty poems or black-and-white photos of wooden chairs.

I'm watching Gumby's Robot Rumpus or whatever it's called. That one's pretty good.

Gumbi's mom: "Such clever boys CERTAINLY deserve crackers with their milk!"

Serco- "Wow! Crackers!? Maybe we can have some white rice later!"

The best short thought, though? Hmm, not sure what that'd be.

The Home Economics Story is a good one. I also really like Why Study Industrial Arts?
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

I'd vote for Robot Rumpus.  Tom reading the title as it is painted on the garage door:  "R O B O  T........ R U M P?" ( .........  U S) "Awww, I thought it was going to be about robot rumps!"

The Gumby one really squares my breasts.

Saw it referred to by the wrong title here.

(clown boxing)
Joel: "This is the strangest debate format I've ever seen."
Crow: "It's like a full-contact Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?... Don't talk about the clown, Martha."

(Betty on trapeze)
Servo: "Yes, our Betty swings both ways!"

(Guy who looks like T. Edison with child on lap)
Servo: "Look! It's Thomas Alva Edison and his electric child!"

(cut to trapeze and back to Edison)
Crow: "You're next up there!"

I could go on. This short is relentless and my absolute fave, especially because it proceeds one of my favorite feature riffs Day the Earth Froze, which was so good they recycled many of the jokes for Magic Voyage of Sinbad, which makes sense because they are almost the same film. except the first one is way funnier.

"Spring Fever," "X Marks the Spot," "Why Study Industrial Arts?" and "A Date with your Family." I really loved the shorts, sometimes better than the movies!

I watched Progress Island USA a couple days ago. I've seen it many times, but there's one line I forgot about and it's one of the funniest quips they've ever done, certainly the funniest one in the short.

It's when they're in this art museum and we see a still of this portrait from around the 18th century. The guy has this powdered wig and an aloof expression on his face. And Mike says "I'm not speaking to you!" in a fairly subtle gay voice. Not over-the-top flamboyant, but enough to really make it work perfectly.

I keep forgetting about that one, maybe that's why it gets me so good every time because it always catches me off guard.

Hired! (Part 2) - "I'm beginning to sober up and you're scaring me!"
Mr. B Natural - "Geh, you were the snake!"
Speech: Using Your Voice - "This man is wearing a push-up bra; now he is pleasing."

The funny thing is that when I first saw the beginning of Circus On Ice, it sounded like a great idea.  Then I saw the rest of the short... gloirification of animal cruelty in cheesy costumes.  "Daddy I don't want to watch the circus anymore!" "You'll see the deer get killed and like it!!!"

#1, "Mr. B Natural", of course.
#'s 2-4, the dating and marriage ones from the 40's and 50's.
#5, the Union Pacific  workplace safety short, mostly 'cuz I loved
Mike's voice-over at the end, "Worship at the railroad of your choice".

Me I love the ones aimed at kids/young teens mostly (ie Mr. B Natural, Posture Pals, etc) mainly because they end up talking down to the kids which makes them easy targets.
