Today Electronic Arts confirmed in a press release that Dead Space 2 is currently in development. Visceral Games, the first game's developer, is working on the title, which promises new weapons, monsters, and plot twists. Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis sets the scene: "The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it." No release window has been mentioned, but we do know Dead Space 2 is being developed for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

I wonder if they'll do some sort of "Venom" thing with him and the suit.

Joystiq pointed it out, but the guy on the cover does look a lot like Guyver.

I have the game on my PC started playing it and the controls quickly pissed me off. They give you one turn to learn them and if you accidentally skip the instructions you're kinda screwed. I got it for X-Mas last year and I've probably gotten not even 1% of the way into the game. Maybe I should play I don't know... did I mention the controls pissed me off?

I'm not sure how the end of the first game lends itself to a sequel, but i'm excited. The new suit just looks like a different bit of mining gear that hasn't been fully fastened on yet. Who knows if that's even Isaac in there?

As for the controls, i had no real problems... but i played on the 360. I think the atmosphere and story are worth overcoming some screwy control scheme. In fact, i plan on picking up the Wii prequel just for the Dead Space mythology it provides. And i'm not a huge fan a rail shooters.

Definitely give it another go, jewcarp.

If anything, what I would like to see for this (considering how it says 'the infection spreads through space') is if it would 'borrow' the plot of that one Alien 3 script (by Eric Red, with maybe a little of the William Gibson one thrown in) that got dumped, where the ship gets picked up by a space station that has a little bio-dome city in it.  They've already gotten past the big hurdle the movie script called for (alien virus that mutates stuff into monstrosities), but since people are likely to have pets and livestock and all that, they could have an almost endless supply of nasty new monsters to throw at people.

Of course, I shouldn't talk like that, since that's not likely to happen, and it's probably just going to be a newer, more rusty ship with stuff leaping out at you.  The new suit does look pretty cool, if a little unpractical.

The next issue of Game Informer magazine contains a ton of details about first-person, survival-horror-sci-fi game Dead Space 2. Here's what we know (Spoilers BELOW)

The game is set in a massive space Station called "The Sprawl." It is an "organic, haphazardly constructed, long-term place that's built around the remaining shards of one of Saturn's moon-The first planet-crack ever. Like any real city it is not all built by one person. Some stuff was built up, and some areas, corporate areas, government areas, and public areas."

The designers worked to improve the pacing of the original game and to make it scarier.

Better AI. This game is less like a haunted house with monsters in the closet and more like a cat-and-mouse game.

The creators of the game tried to add more "Epic" moments.

Monster appearances will be less predictable.

Zero gravity has been changed to allow you to run onto walls and ceilings, as well as launch yourself and "float" through space.

Isaac will have dialog, and we'll learn more about him as a character.

New weapons, and better balanced versions of the older weapons.

Multiplayer:  "All I can say is it's really fun, and you'll get to strategically dismember your friends." That sounds like Left 4 Dead style, player-controlled monsters to me... but I could be very wrong.

Check out the "Source" link for more in-depth information.

Finally got ahold of the first game for PC - and like it was mentioned before, the controls are horrible. I'm fine with the claustrophic view thing, but trying to turn using the mouse just swings the camera wildly. This was clearly made for consoles...I can get used to it, but it's REALLY annoying, and I don't know if I'll be able to get used to it enough to get through the whole game.  The PC control scheme better be freakin' fixed this time around.

The church set piece looked pretty awesome. Also looks like they are sticking with the same formula that made the first game great and not trying to re-invent it too much.

More news, from Comic-Con: Apparently, there's gonna a graphic novel, a regular novel, and another animated film coming out before the game.

Also, it's gonna have online multiplayer. THAT's gonna be interesting to see.

And apparently, one of the other news from E3 that I think was missed here was that the Wii game, Dead Space Extraction, is eventually gonna be available for PS3 players, but I can't remember if it would be a limited time thing or not, or if it would be strictly downloadable or store-sold..

There's also gonna be an interactive comic book for XBOX Live and the Playstation Network, Dead Space: Ignition: http://www.gamespot.com/events/ea2010/story.html?sid=6270439&pid=998531&mode=previews

Nothing to do with the game, but labeling your video "First HD Dead Space 2 Footage" is misleading when it's hand held of a huge projection, under exposed, and you're standing way to the left of the screen.  That's like shooting someone playing a Wii game with an Iphone 4.  Sure the video you get will be in "HD", but that doesn't mean what you are watching has high definition.
