Doesn't come out until Friday here.  Looks fantastic.  I got tired of the GTA series, because no matter how good it is, I'm tired of the setting.  Westerns are barely touched upon and seem perfect for an open-world game.

    • Yep, I have a deviantART gallery. But it's pretty cheerful drawings-- no angsty poems or black-and-white photos of wooden chairs.

Back.

Apparently Meijer sells midnight release titles up front at the middle cash register. Which is a good idea, they just need to do a better job of letting me know that! I could've gotten in and out quicker if I didn't have to go clear to the back of the store, wait around fifteen minutes checking watch and thinking WTF, before tracking down an employee and having HER tell me where I can get it.

Oh well, at any rate, time to get my Red Dead on.
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

Yeah. Love it already. And I already did something that made me laugh out loud because I was NOT expecting it.

I won't say what, though. I'll just let it be something you discover on your own.

So far: Excellent.

However, expect a lot of ambushes and to die a lot of cheap deaths. I know that's all part of the lawless they were going for, but I think it detracts from the game. Whenever you're just out exploring and you get ambushed and shot and killed almost instantly and re-spawn: it takes you RIGHT OUT of the game, and out of the setting.

I mean, that's just my opinion. Others might go for that. But for me, again, I think it takes you out of the moment and brings the experience to a grinding halt.

Just picked it up at Best Buy, and the copy I grabbed from the shelf still had the pre-order "Get a free War Horse" thingie inside!  Pre-order THIS, suckers!  Ha ha ha ha ha!

I basically got through the first mission.  It's intriguing, different from Call of Juarez, but good.  Haven't died yet, though, so I might have a different opinion after that happens about five times...an opinion along the lines of "You lousy, cheap, no good, four flushing, toad-licking, dirt-eating..."  Just watch Christmas Vacation, you'll get the idea.   ;D

Did you get the PS3 version? I think that has some sort of exclusive content on it.

Yeah, the wrapper said something about extra content...I don't know if it's included or it'll be downloadable soon, but the War Horse thingie was the Best Buy pre-order thing.  I never, ever pre-order, and the only time I've ever gotten skunked on the free add-on crap was Uncharted 2, where I missed out on the gold weapons.  Let me see real quick...

*looks for bag and plastic wrap*

"Playstation 3 Exclusive Content Includes Solomon's Folly gang Hideout and Walton Gang Outfit!"  The exclamation point is what's on the wrapper, not mine.

I got the lame-ass energy knives and not-quite-as-lame Uncharted 2 beta pre-order bonuses from InFamous, though I bought it in the store on release day. Another one of those deals where the pre-order sticker was right there on all the copies sitting on the shelf. ;)

Well, that was fun.  I got through a bunch of crap, never died once, and was about to buy the next safehouse and save, when a guy challenged me to a duel.  Figured I'd do it, stepped outside, and...

The system froze.  2 hours of work gone.

Damn it.   :grr:

And gloriously, Amazon have sent my copy out early.  I'll get it tomorrow, though I've gotta take care of my nephew during the day.  Stupid babies.
