Resident Evil 4 was a big turning point in the series. They ditched the "Human Tank" style controls and turned it into something less puzzly, and more action friendly. The purists insist that it was a big mistake, but most people agree that it was just the shot in the arm that the series needed. (Enough that it became one of the few M-Rated games to actually do really well as a Nintendo exclusive when it was released.)

Personally, I think it's a solid entry into the series. There are some pretty awesome boss battles and creepy moments. There's an escort mission element to things with a girl who you have to keep safe at various points in the game, but most of the time you can make her hide in a dumpster or something while you take care of business, so it's not too annoying.

I personally HATED Resident Evil 4. I'm not a fan of the controls at all. Also, Ashley's a skank.

What did you play it on?  I remember the controls working pretty well on the wii.

I tried both. Honestly, it's probably more the mechanics of the game than the controls, although I really don't like the wii's control scheme for any game. Motion controls just don't do it for me for any game. They always end up feeling gimmicky and terrible, even if the game was made by Nintendo. Case in point: Skyward Sword. I couldn't get into that game, because I was tired of it not registering my thrust attacks, and half the time, Link would swing his sword in the wrong direction. RE4, on the other hand, suffers from the mechanics of being unable to move and shoot, combined with the third person. Everything was brown, which made it irritating for me to try and hit anything. The update on the Wii DID alleviate this somewhat, but not enough for me to change my opinion of the game. I really don't like third person shooters. I hate having half the screen blocked by a slow moving mass of cool.

I enjoy the story of the game, though. I just can't get past the annoyingness of the mechanics and controls.

This is the only thing stopping me from getting it so far. When I look up reviews of this release, that's all I see: complaints about controls.

I have managed to make some older games (System Shock 2, Condemned: Criminal Origins, etc.) easier to control with Xpadder. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xpadder)

I wonder if I can configure that well enough to compensate.

The good news, there will be another Arkham game this year, Batman: Arkham Knight.  It is being developed by Rocksteady again and looks like it's taking a huge leap in scope from all the previous games.

The bad news, in order to play it I'll have to buy a PS4 or probably upgrade my PC considerably.

If you were able to play Origins on your PC you'll probably be fine, same engine, and 2 year development usually don't mean a major graphics improvement.

I haven't tried any of the Arkham games on PC, I've only played them on PS3 to date.  I haven't really tested this computer at all when it comes to current games.

One would think they would record their promotional videos at a higher frame rate.  Their games look a whole lot better on my PC.

Also, they choose the most awful angle.  Does anyone really play like that?  You can barely see any of the table.  And in an advertisement you would think you'd want to show off as much of the table as possible.

Wow, that's great.  They catch and punish cheaters.  I wish they did this in Dark Souls.  Lots of straight up, infinite health hackers, but it also seemed like half the community used save editors and the like.

While I wish Titanfall players all the best (and glad they're regulating that stuff), I do have to say that all the rampant cheating in the first place is why I don't like to play multiplayer.  Well, that, and the messages from people who get frustrated over the stupidest things.  And kids who get M-Rated games and think people take them seriously when they swear a lot.  And that trophy lists force you to play games with random strangers, who mostly happen to be the frustrated people and kids, for pointless reasons of 'Ranking' that aren't even all that impressive to begin with.

Wow.  Never thought cheating would actually be the fourth thing of online play I don't like.  I'm slipping in my old age.

But on topic, Outlast is getting prequel DLC.  If I could only get past the first damn guard in the game (who is somehow psychic in complete darkness, despite assertions to the contrary), I might pick that up, since the game has been great up until that point.

Also, while not exactly gaming news, but surprising news to me, purchasing Far Cry HD Classic showed me that Uwe Boll is not the worst thing to happen to the Far Cry series.  Far Cry 1 did that all on its own.  (Heard the later ones were better, though I wanted to play them in order, so I can't be certain.  Blood Dragon was awesome, though).
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

I hope it's better than Valve Anti Cheat, they don't seem to catch cheaters and I have received a false positive for manually swapping CS:GO on a hard drive instead of deleting and re installing from the cloud. They main problem with the Counter Strike series is you can buy any of the games for about $3, so cheaters make many "cheat accounts" and just re buy the game if they get banned.
