It'd be awesome if this thing ended up with a multi-million dollar budget. I wonder how they'd spend it all. :^)

Considering it's now almost 700,000, I don't think a million plus is that difficult to achieve any more.  This could be a really viable way for smaller studios to finance their games beforehand.  All Double Fine have to do is make sure the game doesn't suck and make people feel ripped off.  :)

So now it's $667,144 after 15 hours of being up.  And it's currently going up at a rate of $830 a minute.  If that holds, and it has been for quite a while, that puts it over a million in 24 hrs.  I'm not quite convinced it'll do it, but it's possible, especially if a few more website do a story on it.

I'm fascinated by the psychology behind this.  This couldn't work for a big blockbuster game, like a sports game, but for a smaller company who has very loyal fans it seems to be working well.  And if you read the comments people love the opportunity to be a part in it, myself included.  But we have no idea what the game is going to be!  We have even less information than a normal independent funding proposal which requires at least a synopsis of the game.  This game could be horrible.  But people have given money very quickly based on the company's track record for creating great games.

From my brief research, the title holder for most money made on kickstarter is $988,464 for the elevated iphone dock,  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hop/elevation-dock-the-best-dock-for-iphone  which has 50 hrs left.  Double Fine has 33 days left.  I am positive that double fine will hold the new title for most money made.  And it'd be awesome if they could print that they did it in a day.

Though I do find it interesting that the most successful items on a site based on altruism and giving are very much based in consumerism and the promise of receiving a product in return.

EDIT: Took me a little while to write that, so now it's $694,402

I also find it interesting that after subtracting whatever they decide to spend on advertising, everything they make in sales will be profit.  Must be a very strange feeling to have a product that is a success before it's even started to be made.

Well they're nearly at $800,000 as of now. If they keep it up (They won't, but let's dream) and make a million a day, they could have double the budget of The Witcher 2. That'd be quite the adventure game. :^)

I wish someone would put up a website like this to fund a new Wing Commander game.  I would give $50 to see that happen.
Fave Rifftrax:The Room Fave MST3K:Manos

And there it is. Hit a million in under 22 hours, and the site pretty much crashed from all the F5ing.

Though I don't know if we'll see 2 million.  But still, over 1 is awesome.

I'm sticking with SNES games for now on. I just don't like the way the industry is going.

The remake of the HL2 mod Dear Esther into a standalone game is out now on Steam, for those interested. Supposedly less frustrating in terms of figuring out where to go now.

Yeah, there's some controversy about the second guy's appearance in the game. IIRC, Capcom isn't too friendly with his creator and his appearances in various Capcom games tends to be rather unflattering or they refer to everyone else but him.  Dead Rising, for example, refers gives a costume of a similar character rather than the title one. It seems there's a fairly large number of fans who think that capcom is purposefully messing up the series. Or then again, it might just be the internet over reacting again. Because that never, ever happens.

Hmm. The Blue Bomber has been oddly omitted lately, and I know the creator left in something of a huff, but I never thought to string together the conspiracy theory.

But would Capcom be so peeved at the guy that they decided to sabotage their own flagship title? Sounds like bad business to me.

Pokemon Black/White 2 was just announced, which is the first time a Pokemon game set has had a direct sequel. That's about all anybody knows right now except that it'll be on DS and the covers feature two new forms for Kyurem, which makes the pokemon look somewhat like Reshiram and Zekrom, like it's mimicking them.

Strange...

They finally ran out of new colours to name their games after.
