All Creatures Great and Small

I remember this show from when I was a kid and would watch anything with animals in it lately due to the Doctor Who connection I started watching it again and I have found that I think(The first three seasons any way)is one of the best Tv shows I have ever seen.

It's perfectly cast I can't think of a single person who let's the thing down.  The writing and direction capture the spirit of the books very well.

I think season three is the best season. With the build up to the war and the cast and writers in top form there are some real tear jerking moments in it.

I think Big Steps and Little 'Uns is one of the best series finals of all time even if it wasn't the last episode.

Anyone else like this show?

I remember seeing a few episodes on PBS many many moons ago and quite enjoying them.  The DVDs are at my library and I've considered getting them.  However, I've also wanted to read the books and I'm afraid if I watch the series first then it will give away everything from the books. I'm one of those people that likes to be surprised by the story when I read.  Don't the TV episodes follow the books pretty closely?

I think it's more of an "inspired by" although the characters remain the same and I do recall a couple of stories that seemed to be lifted directly but I watched and read years apart.  It is a good series.

No matter how good the series might be, it reminds me too much of sunday evenings before having to go back to school for me to enjoy it.  :)

The first three season fallow the books fairly closely after the two movies they were pretty much making up their own stories since they had used everything in the books.

The biggest change is that in the middle of the first season the actor playing Herriot hurt his leg so they had to rewrite the stories to have Peter Davidson doing his location stuff.

It is a really good show  and I don't think it spoils the books at all,i like them both.

I'm really glad you reminded me of this show; I've just added them all to my Netflix queue. Loved those books.  :D

Well you are very welcome.

Anyone who is a Doctor Who fan should keep their eye peeled there are a ton of Doctor Who people in front of and behind the cameras on this great show.
