Will RiffTrax work with videotapes?
« on: June 17, 2009, 02:06:12 PM »
Hello there!
I wasn't quite sure where to put my question, and this seemed like the best bet.

Here's my problem: I have videotapes of several movies (like the Star Wars trilogy) you have made RiffTrax for. Should I stop being a cheapskate and go buy the DVDs, or will the riffs still synch up?
Thanks much, and I love what you're doing! :)

Welcome aboard!

There are several threads on this topic already. After a quick search (the "search" button at the top of the page) I got these results:

Short answer is: They might, but we don't design the riffs to work with VHS, and so we can't guarantee they will stay in sync.

The older a tape is the more it might play inconsistantly, you might end up with more drift than watching with a dvd.  Plus if your dealing with stuff like Star Wars you have to deal with Lucas changing things between the VHS and DVD release.  Even if you have the Special Edition tapes, there are changes between them, especially between the versions of Empire Strikes Back.  Heck I think there are even changes between the VHS and DVD for Episode I.

Yes there are. The Pod Race is longer on the DVD.

I found that both Glitter,Jurassic Park, and Star Trek 5 worked fine with VHS.
