Alpha Protocol - 24 as an RPG?
« on: April 05, 2009, 04:58:42 AM »
Obsidian, those fine developers behind KotoR II and Neverwinter Nights II are finally developing their own game, and it looks pretty awesome! There's not a whole lot about the game out at the moment, but Obsidian have just started putting out some developer diaries explaining the game with some footage thrown in for good measure.  Looks neat, though I'm not entirely sure about the quality of the cut-scenes, especially the lip-synching on the faces.  Meh, it's still early.

Okay people, you also need to get excited about the game to qualify my opinion on it!

Hey, I'm a Black Isle fan, and I loved KOTOR 2.  But I probably lack the system requirements to run this game, so I really don't know what I can even say about it.

It's coming out on the consoles as well, if you have one of them.

Nope.  Don't think I'm ever going to buy one ever again.  At least, if things stay the way they are.

Besides, I refuse to play RPGs on consoles as a matter of principle.

My excitement for this game finally got the better of me, and i just placed a pre-order with Gamestop. Alpha Protocol looks great, but it seems to be totally under everyone's radar for some reason. But who knows... with everything being pushed to 2010, this might break out as some kind of sleeper hit of the summer. Either way, i'm all over it.

I just saw some developer walkthroughs for this, and it looks like it has potential.  I'm not normally an RPG fan, but Fallout 3 really got it's hooks in me, so these action RPGs that I normally ignored in the past are now suddenly on my radar.

Noooooo!!!

Quote from: Joystiq.com
Rumor: Alpha Protocol Delayed, Possibly Until 2010

It appears Sega's Alpha Protocol is going to suffer a delay, the precise length of which is the topic in question. The last official word we heard from the publisher was Alpha Protocol was to be released October 6 (that's next week!), a release date that has seemed unlikely for quite some time as numerous retailers have long since shifted that date to late October. The latest release date change causing questions is that mega-retailer GameStop has shifted its expected launch date for the title to 6/1/2010, with Amazon Canada also showing a 2010 release (Amazon US has not made any change).

Rest of article: here.

This comes on the heels of Sega and Sony's meeting, where this little nugget surfaced:

I'm OK with this if it means a better game will come of it.  Also, there's too many big games coming out in Oct/Nov anyways, so this might be a blessing for AP, which could have very easily been over-shadowed and lost in the shuffle.

This makes it a bit easier for me to pull the trigger on Borderlands....
