Movies even MST3K couldn't save
« on: December 22, 2006, 12:39:40 PM »
I love MST3K but there were even episodes that the movie was so bad not even they could make it watchable. Two in particular stick out with me. Time Chashers and The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-up Zombies. Anyone else find an episode that was so bad you couldn't watch it?

Hobgoblins, Boggy Creek II, and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders. The jury's still out on Touch of Satan. It squicked me out so much I couldn't get through it the first time, but I may give it the old college try (yes, I've just been watching Riding with Death again, how did you know?) again one of these days.

The German version of Hamlet.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Huh. I enjoyed all of these, and Boggy Creek's one of my favorites.

Manos is by far the most unwatchable episode, in my opinion. They Brains did their best, but there's just no movie to riff. The "What type of deformed monster would you be?" host segment is classic, though.

I'd say that I find most of the Gamera movies kind of hard to take.  The one I can think of offhand though is "Santa Claus".  That movie just gives me nightmares. THe execution of it, the garish colors, the fact that Santa lives in a house with strange penile appendages, insane clownish children, and fights a devil who wears red diapers...it's all so horrific that I find it not amusing, even with Riffs.

S.C. vs. the Martians I just find really boring. :/

Alas.  I know you guys did your best, but...some are still too unwatchable.

I can understand why Davo said Manos, but the Torgo riffs make it worthwhile to watch in my mind.

Hobgoblins, Boggy Creek II, and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders.

Those are my three fave episodes.  Hamlet is the only episode of MST3k that I can't sit through.  I mean, it's just bloody awful.

Now see, I have absolutely no problem with Manos or Hamlet:) Each to his own, I guess. I think the concept of taking a crappy dubbed version of Shakespeare and getting a riff out of it -- and a darned good riff, at that -- was brilliant.

The Last of the Wild Horses was the first one that I did not watch all the way through. Perhaps not a bad movie in most senses but it was sooooo very very boring. No offence to mike and the bots as well but it wasn't the best riffing job as well. (I love you Mike! Please don't kill me :'() Just the movie itself was boring.

While Manos and Monster a Go-Go were defintly bad, the riffing is what made them bearable. When watching Manos though, I felt my brain start to strangle itself but thanks to Mike, he saved my life :D

The Wild Wild world of Batwomen. Deliciously bad but again, riffing I think made this a bearable adventure. Fav line; Crow: "END! END!"

The Incredibly BAD MOVIE that not even hypnosis could make good because people were hurt by the incredibly bad run on sentence that it created in the title alone along with almost no plot explanation what's so ever and bad acting doesn't really help either by the incredibly strange creatures who stopped living and became mixed up Zombies. Question, how did movie theatres fit that loooongggg title to show it was playing? :-P Must have been fine print on the poster as well. ::)

I quite enjoy the Hamlet episode. It's not their strongest riffing, but they get major bonus points just for riffing Shakespeare. Bad Shakespeare, but still.

Any of the Westerns, on the other hand? Dull dull dull. Nothing happens to make fun of. Ooh look, another scene with a guy on a horse squinting into the camera, not saying anything!
