You got the email, right?

You've heard the commentary, right?

Well, tell us your thoughts!

(Me? It's midnight. I'm downloading it, going to bed and then listening in the morning.)

Sweet! I haven't watched the other re-dos yet. Maybe we'll have a marathon this weekend?

I wouldn't call them re-dos. More like improvements. Jokes are the same... just more and in some cases improved.

I don't think it's to make it a surprise. I think it's because you would either never guess they were going to redo an old riff, or you'd guess it right away by narrowing them down.

I call them double-dips. No use coining a NEW term.

I'd like to think that these three riffer versions are coming ONLY because I posted the hi-res poster art in the Fan Art Forum.

If you REALLY want Dune to come out, you will beg me to post Dune hi-res stuff.

Going to download this today at lunch and watch tonight!

Well, ALL the jokes are not. If you'd like we can post both scripts side-by-side for you to compare.

Actually that would be cool to see for a kind of behind the scenes type of thing...

From the way I understand it, they went through each script and depending on the material either threw sections out completely or revamped jokes. Which is why I was saying not "all" the jokes are the same :)  According to Conor, NOTLD and Carnival of Souls (coming soon) are essentially brand new, whereas Reefer was closer to 80% new material, but HoHH is closer to its original script than the others.  The amount of new material varies on each one - some of the ones we have coming up are complete rewrites, but since HoHH was a more recent Legend release, it's closer to the riffing style than NOTLD (with the "zombie recipes" etc).

I also know that they spent almost as much time reworking these as they usually devote towards writing a new riff, so it's not like they just went through each line and replacing words. I'm certain they took each joke into consideration.

I never said they were ALL the same. No need to get all defensive and try to prove me wrong. As I said before, it's not just re-performing the same jokes but more like adding new material. I think you might have misinterpreted what I was saying. The stronger jokes from the previous solo riffer versions are carried over and in some cases verbatim. Much of the 'commenting' feel mike has in his older riffs is lost and it feels more like a regular rifftrax. Whether or not you want to admit it, people will remember the strong jokes from the old and will notice the similarities even if the majority of the riff is different. It's like a comedian performing new material... you'll always notice the old jokes first. In the end you'll probably walk away remembering the old jokes they performed again that night and less of the new material. I'm a musician and it works they same way with music. Perception can be different than the actual facts.

With that said, everyone should buy the 3-riffer versions. Don't know if I would buy the solo riffs though if I already have the 3-riffer version. Just seems kind of pointless to me to buy something that is an improved version of itself. And there are enough similarities in the two to make me feel that I pretty much got all the good stuff from the solo riff in the new one. When I author my DVDs, it will be to replace the solo-riff versions.

None of what I have said is a criticism, just an honest observation from my point of view.
