Here we got about an inch and a quarter of rain overnight, temperature peaked at 50 around 10am, now it's dropping fast and they are predicting the low tonight to be 7.

Our latest class 3 kill storm is about 3 hours late and may not be the storm they were predicting. May be a blizzard with more than a foot of snow and 50 mph winds. May be 1 to 3 inches.

They're still predicting 5 to 8 inches of snow here tonight and tomorrow, but the foot plus that was supposed to start at noon still hasn't started. Was around the 20 degrees and raining lightly when I left work (which was weird-can't remember ever getting rain at that temperature- and it was freezing as it hit the windshield) but even that's over now.

We're expecting light freezing rain early this morning before changing to all rain later in the morning with a high in the mid 50s, then a low tomorrow morning in the low 50s ???
Our weather is screwy ::)

Never got the winds they were predicting and the snow started about 20 hours later than the forecast, but we got around 8 inches of snow between 8 AM and 2 PM today. Now we're supposed to be in for 4 or 5 days in a row of actual highs around 0 and wind chills of -20.

Ugghhh! This cold weather sucks. Far too damned cold to even take the dogs for a walk. Single digits or lower until next Saturday. Windchills tomorrow of -40. And to top it off (if the forecast holds) we're going to get another 6 inches of snow tomorrow night. Usually doesn't snow here when it's this damn cold.

The polar vortex is on it's way!

Was just thinking of the progression of terms since I was a kid:

Cold spell on it's way.
Frigid temps on the way.
Arctic BLAST is on it's way!
The POLAR VORTEX is coming to get you!

    • Yep, I have a deviantART gallery. But it's pretty cheerful drawings-- no angsty poems or black-and-white photos of wooden chairs.

Record cold is coming and there's a snowstorm blowing through that's caused damn near EVERYTHING to close.

Schools, colleges, churches, and I've seen it get bad enough for THAT before, and I've DRIVEN in weather that resulted in THAT, and it was awful.

TODAY, I don't have to be anywhere so I haven't been out on the roads. But schools are closed, colleges, churches, government offices all over the state, clinics, medical centers, not the big hospitals with Emergency care and inpatients, obviously. ALL of that is closed.

THAT is new.
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

They finally got a forecast right this winter. Over a foot of snow and a single digit high today (which is supposed to be the warmest day this week). Road conditions on the way home from work were about as bad as I can remember them being in years. They had plowed, but it's too damned cold for salt to melt anything so what was left was ice or snow covered ice.
There are times when I enjoy shoveling snow as it can be a decent mindless workout. Shoveling over a foot of snow in a -20 degree wind chill after the plow has come through and the snow at the end of the driveway is chest level is not one of those times.

Today was also only the second time in our 20+ years in Wisconsin that we didn't get mail due to the weather (bill in the mail box with the flag up wasn't picked up and Amazon states that my order that was supposed to be delivered today was not delivered because "carrier could not access the front door".)

Got down to 21 here last night, highs not getting above 40 and tonight we might drop into the upper teens for a low :speechless:
But we'll rebound back into the 60s and even 70 after the Super Bowl :o

All mail delivery was stopped today and tomorrow due to the temps.
