Case Study LSD - And Vintage Commercials

by One Wall Cinema

Now here's a question no one asked: If hot dogs were people, how many hot dogs would it take to constitute a family. Eight of course, two parents and six kids. So when you start jumping on a deranged hotdog, remember, he has a wife and six kids. Confused yet. Don't worry, all will be made clear*

*Disclaimer - Absolutely nothing of the sort is made clear.

Oh, and there's something about electric razors

I just watched Cinester Theater's Frozen.  What a great riff.  I loved all the Mr. Freeze jokes!  And Kristoff and Sven stuff was fantastic.  I'd never seen the movie before and it's left me with many questions.
What was Else planning on eating in her furnitureless ice castle?  Shouldn't a princess from Norway (or wherever the hell this thing is supposed to take place) no better than to run off in the snow in a sleeveless gown?  And how did Anna not get hypothermia running around like that?  Why did the movie not acknowledge the slipperyness of ice until the very end of the move?  They should have been sliding all over the place in that stupid ice castle.  And most importantly of all, does Olaf have a soul and if so what other Godlike powers does Elsa have that she hasn't discovered yet?

Last month, I watched several shorts by Mister X (of The Back Row with Mister X), and overall enjoyed them a great deal.

"Halloween Safety" (the seventies version), "The Relaxed Wife," and "Gumby's Gold Rush" had me laughing throughout.  "Intermission Time" was hit or miss, but better than I expected.  "As Boys Grow" (on the VOD 4-pack) didn't work for me so much, mainly, I think, because it was recorded live, and the riffs have a haphazard, tossed-off feel.  (And I'm not sure what the "Vidriffz Remix Show", also on the VOD 4-pack, even was, except something else that didn't work for me.)

I haven't yet checked out Mister X's work on Geek Juice Media, though I plan to.  (And someday soon I'll also check out his Johnny Sokko Ep. 1 riff.)

I also, around the same time, watched Hor-Riff-Ic's Halloween Safety Shorts (comprising both the seventies version and the eighties version).  Now that was a good time!  Enough to make me admit I watched halloween shorts in January.

Just recently watched their "Children of the Corn" riff, and will be watching their "Leprechaun" riff soon, possibly tonight.  I'll comment more on those soon.

Last month, I watched a couple films riffed by Hor-Riff-Ic that I'd requested as part of Darth Geek's spreading of iRiffmas cheer (  http://forum.rifftrax.com/index.php?topic=31859.0  ).  Cheesy 80s horror movies are among my favorites, so I had high expectations.

"Children of the Corn" was a lot of fun, though in places the riff density seemed light.  (I'm guessing this was an early riff, as Satan had very few lines.)  I was also expecting someone to make a comment on how much Isaac was giving off a "Ted Cruz as a kid" vibe, even though the riff was done years before Cruz smarmed his way into the presidential race.

(I mean, seriously, compare pictures of John Franklin (the actor who played Isaac) as a adult to pictures of Ted Cruz.  Are we really sure they're not the same person?)

I followed that up with "Leprechaun", and loved the hell out of that riff.  The inherent absurdity of the movie made it even better, I think.  If Hor-Riff-Ic riffed any of the sequels, that might be enough to get me to... actually watch the sequels.  :)

COTC was in fact our 2nd ever riff and the first time Satan was introduced, we do cringe at our gaps in our earlier tracks.  After the mess we got ourselves into with the Friday the 13th sequels I do not want to touch another franchise like Leprechaun that has 6 films!  I'm already burnt out what little Irish accent I had. Thanks for the review.

They don't come on the forums much, so I'll answer until they do, and they correct me if I'm wrong. They have told me that they plan on doing one non Friday movie between each Friday sequel. So they are currently working on Phantasm, which will be released after it's debut at the DemiCon in Des Moines on April 29th. And then they will do Friday the 13th part 6. Then another movie. Then Friday the 13th part 7. And so on.

The geek one is correct, Friday 6 we'll start back on next after Phantasm is wrapped up.  With the little one now crawling around the house our time isn't what it used to be so we'll do our best but it will most likely be a few years before we're done.  I can almost forsee our little Wolfgang doing a riff on the last one.

In the past 2-3 weeks, I watched...

Quiptracks: "Street Fighter - The Legend of Chun-Li" This was one of the worst video game movies out there, and I was glad to see it get what was coming to it.  One of my favorite riffs so far.

Quiptracks: "The Show - Escape Into Space" -- I can never get enough Rocky Jones riffing, and this 1/2 hour entry was fun.  I also realized a few minutes in that this episode was the one that immediately preceded "Manhunt in Space", one of the two Rocky Jones movies MST3K did.

Quiptracks: "Fury of the Cocoon" -- Noam Chomsky and Mr. Whipple are beset by invisible Bat Boy clones... no, wait, that's not it.  (But it's not far off, either.)  Not one of the better outings of "Tales of Tomorrow," but great material for this entertaining riff.

Ralph and Rick Resent: "The Bat" -- After enjoying their entry in the "Phantom Empire" serial, I wanted to check out more of Ralph and Rick's work.  The film's pretty mediocre, with Vincent Price smirking his way to an easy paycheck and plot holes galore, but the riffing was superb.

Quiptracks riff of JUMPER (2008) - An excellent riff on a staggeringly bad movie. The movie itself is...well it stars Hayden Christenson and is about a douche who has teleportation powers that he only uses for his own benefit. It also has Samuel L Jackson as a religious assassin, who kills jumpers...because. The movie is less than an hour and a half, but feels a lot longer.

Quiptracks is in fine form here, as usual. Plenty of good riffs, and a lot of references to past movies they've riffed.
Definitely recommended.
